I havent looked it up but I think @ '53, as title says in a paddock. Has a proper 80" hard top (ute) and well made rear large (!!) canopy.

Cant see any rust but didn't climb around it etc.

it is in fairly good condition minus the mods but i would think rust wise it would be pretty good. it is a 52/53. i reckon if you could pick it up for $500 or less you would be doing really good

Looks to me that it has the wrong engine. Shouldn't it be a 15hp F head engine? That looks like a 2.25 ltr OHV Series 2 engine? Not that is really a bad thing. Depends how original you want it to be.

Yes, it is certainly not the correct engine. Body looks pretty good actually.

Ian,
I should have known that you'd have known!:D But sorry I didn't know......:confused::angel:

I havent spoken to the owner at all, spoke to his tennant and he gave permission for me to have a capt cook and to photograph them (hence covering no. plates)

I was intending to contact the owner but as you know the location and vehicles I assume it would be wasted effort??

Cheers

Hi,

Nice find, its a 1953 CKD (number 791 of this series) with a positive earth 2 1/4 in it. Judging by the manifold its not a really early one though.

Is that a split rim on the front left? Well worth saving if it is!

Nice hard top, a bit hard to tell if it is 80 or 86/88 from the angle but assume you had a good look. Its a pitty the back has been cutout of it but one could fix this panel with a later 86/88 piece stuck in and hidden with the corner gal strips.

Note that the transmission tunnel has been modified to allow the 2 1/4 and later box to be fitted. They are quite fun to drive with these engines in, much nicer than a Holden.

Cheers

Hi digger
as far as what they are worth is in the eye of the beholder
when I saw them last year he was talking of trashing them
seem's to think he could get $1000 per vehicle from Sim's Metal
they stripped the top off a going 4 cly donk and left the bonnet up for 10 years.
good bye engine.
the only difference between him and the circus clowns, they get paid
If you want a car or two, you can make a offer for my shed
cheers

it has to be a 52 or 53 because of the grill and it does not have the lights on the firewall. i dont know if there i any differences between 52 and 53 though
and as 862993 said it is,
3 Model year: 1953
6 Model: Land Rover, Series I, 80in, petrol
6 Body type: Completely knocked down (CKD)
6 Destination: Right-hand drive (RHD), export market
0791 Serial number

Hi Mrs hh, the two piece vent (one on either side) started in 1954 with the 86 inch models. The bulkhead was redesigned and the vents became part of this rather than the windscreen frame.

The single vents were an optional extra for the home market but became standard on Australian vehicles relatively early on thanks to our dry climate and dusty conditions.

Tony, another way to tell the difference between 1952/53 models from the outside is the way the door hinges to the bulkhead. In 53 they did away with the top loop of the bottom hinge support. Note the top "leg" of the hinge was also removed. You can just make it out in the picture of the vehicle from front on.

Well spotted:thumbsup:

I think it is an 88 hardtop because of the rear canvas attachment plates visible from inside the metal canopy and the later reinforced strap slots in the plates. Not sure if separate rear canvas canopies were originally available for 80" metal ute cabs. The few 80" ute cab hardtops I have seen had no attachment plates, interested to know if they also exist.

Note that the transmission tunnel has been modified to allow the 2 1/4 and later box to be fitted. They are quite fun to drive with these engines in, much nicer than a Holden.
