Hi All,
Can anyone explain the extra "webbing" on this axle casing ?...certainly looks genuine i.e. not a later bodgy addition.
cheers

Normal. Some time during 2a production they strengthened the rear axle housings.

It appears from about '62? for the LWB and then SWB's from 63? but anyway genuine factory fitment

I believe strengthened axle casings were standard on Series 1s 88/109 with fully floating axles. About 1957. W

I'm no expert but both my 1960 SWB and my 1961 LWB have this.

Like many Landrover "features", I don't thnk this came in on a specific date or chassis number. It would have initially been optional, and later become standard, although Rover Australia may have adopted it as standard before the parent company did. Strengthened axles are fitted to most, but by no means all Series 2as I have seen, and the ages of the ones not so fitted do not seem to make sense! (of course you rarely know for sure what you are seeing is original)

Yes I will agree with that. :) You never know if some later models bits been swapped over:) In my area there is a '60 SWB without the bracing and another SWB of same vintage with it front and rear although it being an army 1 could account for that :D

Yes, as far as I know all army ones (except possibly some trial ones) definitely came with the bracing.

axle lamination, intended to prevent housing bending if you hung up on it while fully loaded
