Hi Guys,

SO i recently bought a 2011 2.7 Disco 4. THe owner listed one of the extras as active electronic diff lock. How do i turn on? How do i know i even have it. I have come from a prado 150 where i had a button for when i needed to lock the diffs i could.

ALso we are planning our first trip up noosa north shore to rainbow. When i am through the soft stuff and driving along the beach. should i drive in sand mode still or should i go back to road and just go?

With the standard 18" tyres what pressure should i go down to?

Any help would be great:)

Domlis,

Gordons book would be very helpful and a bit of time searching through this part of the forum would answer many of your questions. A great place to start is the FAQ at the start of these pages as it will answer lots of your questions.

My repsonses are:

E-diff comes and goes as part of the terrain Response(TR) and does not require manual operation.

How do you know you have one - If you raise the car to offroad height and have a look (from the pasenger side I think is best) at the rear axle you should see some wires and stuff. Or next service ask you dealer and they advise.

Have a play with the TR when on the sand and you will work out what is best, but fair to say the sand mode in the D$ is a good bet. There is no "wear" issue associated with running the vehicle in one mode v another (as far as I am aware)

With 18in rims and a fully loaded car dropping pressures will really help. Again pressure are trial and error and depend on personal experience, circa 20 psi is probably a reasonable start.

But the D3/ D4 is heavy and sand is broadly accepted as not being it strong suit. Notwithstanding that they are very good on sand but you need to maintain momentum more than you would have in the Prado.

Hope that helps.

George

And remember to turn off the DSC at EVERY start or you will be looking for a tow.............!

Go to low range and rock crawl,
Turn on the screen that shows the wheels and drives.
Head for a steep hill.
Start driving up and you will see the lower diff icon go from red to green etc as it engages, and the wheels move up and down.
It's captivating to watch it in action.
Off course if it does not show the icon, it is not there!

As others have said:
You don't turn it on, its auto.
Put the car into off road hieght, look through the LHS wheel arch and you'll see it.
Sand mode, DSC off, manual shift if required to keep the revs up.
18 PSI.

Interesting for me. I've been told my D4 doesn't have an e-diff but when in low range rock crawl the icon is there! - confused.

The Icon is there regardless of whether you have one or not. If the icon changes from green to red (when it activates) then you know you have one (or if you can see it looking over the rear wheel).

Don't forget to use low range if you need all the off road systems to work at their best. It changes lots of settings for the better when you really need the best possible off road performance.
