I have a laptop with Vista installed (I don't have the disc). How can I remove it and install Windows 7. I have the installation disc for this. There are no files on the laptop and I can easily reload programs that I want. Jim:):)

Won't it just install over the top of Vista?

Before you do anything find and download all relevant drivers for the machine. Then just install W7 over the top of the other os.

If there is nothing on the laptop you want to save, and the laptop meets the minimum requirements for W7, I'd boot from the W7 setup disk and choose to format the hard drive to get the most responsive installation.
If your W7 is an upgrade, and you don't have the original disk this won't work, you need the original to prove you are eligible to upgrade.
Whatever you do, tread lightly. The installation will not go back to your original, and being as you don't have the original installation disk you could end up in deepest, darkest poo.
Out of interest, most laptops have a recovery sector containing the original OS, rather than installation disks. Does yours? In which case I'd restore the system and then upgrade to W7.

My Windows 7 disc is a full program not an upgrade one. It wont do anything except tell me there is a compatability problem. Maybe the laptop is too old. I also have an xp upgrade disc but this wont work because vista is newer. Jim

why not?
you try pressing the F12 (or f8 on some) key when first turning it on or going into the bios or setup and set the boot order to cd then hdd?
