Which one of you D3 guys owns this one?
53652
Every tyre on this D3 was bald, there was no trace of tread anywhere!
I know how good the traction system is on these cars but it's not going to do you much good if you can't stop the car in the wet! I realise that its hard to afford new tyres sometimes but ... come on!
Not only is this monkey putting his life and his family's life in danger but mine and yours too!
Good luck to you sir and to everyone on the road around you!

I see that quite a bit with expensive cars. People can afford the loan to buy one, but can't afford basic maintenance as well.

Somehow I don't think this would be a forum member. I think we are more passionate about our cars then those that only use them as Toorak tractors.

I really didn't think it would be a forum member Brett but BigJon is right ... I think you do see it more often on luxury cars.

People like that, **** me to tears...
And are placing MY family and friends at risk... I don't care about the driver etc, but I certainly care about those in my life.
Did you get the rego? Dob the stupid idiot in - you may save someones life.

As he said^^^^^^^^^:)
Very common around here, just have a look around as you walk to your car at the local supermarket, particularly the front tyres on any type of vehicle.
Some have no tread at all & are down to the canvas:mad:

Police been giving a bit of warning here lately - FNQ, will be going hard on roadworthy's over the Xmas period.
In the shopping center car park sitting in the car last weekend watching 2 officers having a ball !
There were walking the whole park checking for tyres mirrors etc, warnings only unless serious this week, will be booking no questions asked from Dec 1st on.
I think they would have booked the one featured, saw them book 2 in the 20 mins I was there. Spoke to a lot of folk though and pointed things out, besides chat I was clean.

The manager at the tyre service down the road dislikes those very wide, very low profile super sticky tyres fitted to many high performance cars. He says the tyres last no distance at all, 15,000 k's being very, very good. Most are worn out well before this. The tyres are VERY pricey and he quotes on a new set, then gets abused as if it is his fault that they bought a performance car with expensive sticky tyres, and proceeded to drive crap out of it . Some of these things are left or right, drive or steer only, and some are made for particular makes (Corvette, Porsche, maybe others).
He reckons the one thing many of the owners have in common other than a fast car is that they have no money and go white when quoted $3,000 and more for a set of tyres. They then have to juggle credit cards to find one that still allows them to charge, or they have to go away and borrow the money.

I see lots of tyres that are down to the canvas, usually on the front of FWD vehicles often with asian drivers. I often wonder if they just don't understand the implications or even if they ever check their tyres.
I also see high performance Commodores and Falcons with 200 + KW with really cheap chinese tyres in 18-21" sizes. Makes me think that the car is all about the look and not about performance.

I agree with the thoughts about Asian drivers; they have no idea or interest about the round black things which keep the rims off the road. Just keep them as cheap as possible/flashy as possible. When I first met my wife (Asian) she had a car with recaps. I have since in the last 25 years given her an education.
In my business I am more than aware of the worth of tyres which are suitable for the purpose and they are what I fit to the vehicle; then I haggle the price for a good deal.

Seriously?
These are racist BS generalisations that are offensive. Lets just stick to the D4 specific stuff. There are plenty of other outlets on the internet for this sort of stuff.
Not OK.

I don't believe any offence was meant. Yes it's a generalisation, like saying most Asians have dark hair. As a generalisation, car maintenance isn't something asians highly prize. We all work with each others strengths and weaknesses.
Get over it.

The moral of the story is that just because you own a nice car, doesn't mean you can afford the maintenance. And just because you own a nice car, doesn't mean you can't indulge in a little profiling - I mean generalising.

Over it.

OH DEAR!!!!
I am sorry if I have offended some people but my wife fully agrees with what I have said.
Once again I apologise to those who may be offended, but I was brought up in the old way and have not learnt properly the new touchy feely politically correct phraseology of this modern world. I tend to call it as I see it.
SORRY....

Last comment and I'll leave this alone.....
While I was not personally offended, I imagine a car proud person from an Asian background may have found the generalisation offensive, notwithstanding your wife's views.. I guess I'd like to think anyone from any background that loves their Disco is able to participate in this forum and feel comfortable.
Of course if they want to start discussing the merits of DC to DC converters for charging ancillary batteries then the gloves come off!

At least we know where you stand.
I'd rather deal with you than someone who says one thing and does another.
Call it as you see it ... this western world has gone mad!
Now, about that DC to DC converter ... 😜

My wife went 4wd with some of our friends in their 120 Prado. It slipped/slided it's way on the trip.Comment from owners "oh yeah tires are a bit worn". I get to see them, bald. I was pretty disgusted. This is rich couple who got rich by being very thrifty. Now the habit extends to tyres. Bad choice I think. So you can have money, and bald tyres! 100% agree that very few really think about what is keeping them on the road.

I have a mate like this, owns two farms outright worth quite a few million. He is proud of the fact that he drives a 15 year old rusty Mitsubishi that he bought a couple of years ago for $1500 and brags that he can buy new tyres for around $50 each.
He has two young kids that are usually in the car along with his lovely wife. He gets cranky when I ask him if his kids and wife's lives are worth more then $60.
Hopefully he won't have to find that out because of crashing due to rubbish no name tyres on a worn out old rusty car.
cheers,
Terry

My kids drive near new diesel BMW's. Not because of name, but because I want them in the best I can afford (which I can't really). The investment we have in them pales in comparison with price of a car. I remember Peter Wherret (and his dress) saying that the kids should drive the Mercedes, and parents the old Holden. Which I tend to agree with .

Regardless of your financial position, good tyres are something that you just have to have. Not only are you endandering the lives of you & your family, but other motorists too.

If you can't afford decent tyres, then sacrifice something else to pay for them and not peoples lives.

Cheers, Craig

I don't know how they don't get scarred into changing them. Having the D4 get skittish on me during a rather heavy down poor at 80kph was enough for me to get the tyres changed. They weren't even down to the indicators. If I was on "racing slicks" like these other schmucks, I'm sure I would have ended up bush bashing.

I agree - if you can't afford the tyres, you can't afford to drive. Leave the car in the garage and walk!
