As if by magic, GL-4 gear oil has once again appeared on the shelves of the auto accessory shops,at about $ 8.00/l. W.

hyundai gearboxes like it apparently according to the bottles of the stuff that i have seen.

seems to be popular enough to be back on the shelves again after being unobtainium in the usual auto parts places for a while.

i got 20l of it from my local caltex / havoline distributor.

FWIW a GL-4 specced oil has 2/3 the EP/AW additive levels of a GL-5 oil.

Dual specced GL-4/5 oils use buffered sulphur EP compounds so they aren't corrosive.

I've been sourcing a GL4 from a local blender for some time. Apparently their GL5 meets the corrosion resistance (if that's the correct term) of GL4 anyway but they recommend GL4 for older boxes.
It's quite a bit cheaper than $8 per litre but not a 'known brand'.
