Asus tablet and networking???

I bought a s/h Asus T101 'transformer' to replace my aging IBM laptop.
Connects to email and internet through my home wireless network ok, frighteningly easy to connect to the pay to download music and apps sites, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to make it see the other networked computers in the house, and the central hdd plugged into my Netgear router.
Am I missing something here? or is it just missing the capability to connect to networks?
The Asus PC Suite connecting software won't install on my XP pc either, but I think that is a separate problem.

Any clues please?

I've never had any trouble connecting to shared drives on my windows network with all my android phones. I use ES File Explorer, which has the option to connect to your LAN shares.

I didn't realise I had to download a app.
I will download it and see what happens.
I am a bit new to this app business.
