Just out of interest, do any of the Defender models have the radio functions and bluetooth controls on the steering wheel?

Has anyone fitted any of these sort of interface to the steering wheel of their 1990's Defender?

i guy i worked with pulled off the back of the remote off and mounted the front half with the buttons flush in the steering wheel.

he than extended the wires on the bulb/led thingy at the front of the remote (what is this bit called?) and mounted this on the back of the steering wheel so it pointed towards the radio........

quite clever and it worked well.............slow cornering the sensor thingy would be pointing towards the driver door therfore would not work

hope that makes sense

I thought the point would be moot as you can't hear the radio in a Defender anyway.

I've seen the cruise control switches from a D2 on a Defender, so I guess you could do the same with radio controls.:)

However with the new road rules brought in on 1st November for NSW drivers, I would like the bluetooth switches so I don't have to touch the phone and risk getting booked.

Just bought a Sony deck from JB HI FI $299 on sale for $168. Has Bluetooth and MP3 iPod etc.

The salesman said it had the best clarity for Bluetooth, he was right I tested it, everyone who used to complained about my VMS Bluetooth in Hilux said the new Sony was fantastic, until I started the motor and started driving, I have no idea what they thought of it after that as I could not hear them nor them hear me. :D

Apart from that the Sony is great especially for $168. Model code if your interested is: Sony MEX-BT4050U

Heaps of features. Recommended.

...Hi Babs

I recently found a double DIN video entertainment system with Stereo radio/DVD/TV/Bluetooth/MP3/iPod/Rear camera/GPS turn by turn & preloaded with OziExplorer for a little more than the RRP of the Sony unit. So am a little interested in that unit.

I read the title of this thread as: Defender steering wheels - radio interference?

I thought, that seems a bit unlikely!! :D

Sounds good, curious as to how you will get a double din in a single din slot?:o

Because my Defender is an early 90s model and doesn't even have the single DIN slot. What I plan to fit is a Mud stuff Defender console which has a double DIN recess in the vertical face.

How dare you consider a luxury on your deefer!
You need to take a long hard look at yourself.

Next you'll be asking for the aircon to work, and for water & dust to remain outside the cab.:o

Two mobs are doing them now. Entreq and Alive Tuning
Alive are doing three different configurations as far as switch arrangements are concerned and there on an exchange basis with your old unit. Alive will colour code to your specifications.
Entreq only do two colours Matt black and gloss black and only one configuration. Non-exchange basis.
Both are very expensive and on my ‘wish list’.
