View Full Version : D2 stopped again

I just got home after being towed when my D2 died on the F3. It made a clunking sound, then the oil light came on and it just stopped. When it turns over it sounds like it has no compression, but no clunks or scrapes. I'll have a better look tomorrow.
I just drove it from Sydney to Perth and back with a 1200 kg trailer, so lucky it didn't happen then was exactly 50 km from home.

Not really a success, but sort of. We came second in the Australian Sidecar Championship, better than I have done before, but so close to first :mad:

Hey,,
if winning an Australian Championship was easy,,
everyone would win one.
My Team came 3rd this year,, a fine result and we get to proudly wear the 203 plate next year,, but just 4 points away from second( in a 600 point tally). 2 DNF's killed us:(
any Pics?:angel::angel::p

Got it looked at today. The crank is buggered. I won't be replacing the engine again, so will probably try to sell it as is.

The engine has about 140,000km, the rest of the car has about 230,000. It threw a conrod about two years ago, so put a second hand engine in, cost me a fortune.

I had Ayers look in the engine, there are broken rockers and a broken cam chain, and lots of bits of broken metal in the top end. It looks like the cam chain snapped because the cam seized with the broken bits and once it lost a lifter the oil pressure went. It's not worth pulling the bottom end off as it would be stuffed. We looked in at the turbo and that was fine.
They deal with Land Rovers every day, and said they have only seen five TD5s destroy themselves totally, and two of them have been mine.

Heard from the new owner of my D2 that my fuel tank was full of fungus. Possibly what caused the engine failure, leaned out just long enough to wreck it.
