View Full Version : Engine won't switch off with battery pack hooked up??

For the recent Moore River trip, I decided to take along my Truckstart Power Pack (great to connect to the air compressor rather than use the starter battery to recharge tyre air pressures).
I used the Truckstop's 12V to 12V connector to trickle charge it whilst driving up, connected to the standard LR rear passenger side power source.
When I stopped and turned off the key, the ignition and hence engine stayed on and only went off when I disconnected the Truckstop Power Pack/battery.
Question - WEIRD or not?

I wonder if it because the trcukstart acts as a battery once it's not charging and somehow energises the ignition circuit back through the power source - there's not many accessories that get plugged into 12v sockets that have a high current so it won;t happen with everything?

correct, the battery tank charge lead is keeping the system alive through the ciggy socket, its not providing much as the alternator is doing all the work.
you can get better leads with charge regulators in them that prevent this.

Thanks Dave - I'll make sure issue will be resolved as you suggest when I fit an Anderson plug etc for the rear interior as a branch off from the HD battery leads for my mobile/removeable front/rear winch setup. Cheers

no,
The problem usually only occurs if the external power is on while the ignition is on/engine running.
putting the power on before the ignition is on shouldnt do anything

I use a batt pack plugged in there to maintain the settings on the stereo and so on when I replace / change the battery. Not sure if I should but have not had probs
