I think this is safe in General Chat. Just remember it's not politics. It's comedy.

It's a joke. A joke. A joke. Shall I say it again, a joke.

Have people forgotten that when the Soapbox existed, it was the only place to discuss politics?
Did people miss the advice when the Soapbox was closed, that party political comment was forbidden, even in the Cantina?
Are people ignoring the repeated reminders within this thread, that the original post was put in General Chat as an example of a comedy skit?
Comments about the political performance of the PM are out of place in this thread and on the entire forum.

Please do not move this thread to The Cantina :)

Judo,
since you appear to live very near him I suggest you go around and see him face to face and have a stern word with him.
Interested to hear how it goes..:D

Quite right. It would be a pretty dull campfire if the best people could do is repeat the same old boring criticisms of their elected representatives.
Sourpusses whose only contribution to the conversation is to complain about some politician don't exactly sound like the life and soul of the party. :D

I take it the necessary kit to take to a campfire chat with you fellows is a nulla. [ just to change the subject of the campfire convesation]. Bob
ps, for those who don't know
Jump to:
A Waddy, nulla nulla or hunting stick is an Aboriginal Australians - war club. The former name comes from the Dharuk Aborigines of Port Jackson -
A waddy is a heavy club constructed of carved timber. Waddies have been used in hand to hand combat, and were capable of splitting a shield, and killing or stunning prey. In addition to this they could be employed as a projectile as well as used to make fire and make Ochre - They found further use in punishing those who broke Aboriginal law.
They were made by both men and women and could be painted or left unpainted. Their construction varied from tribe to tribe, but they were generally about one metre in length and sometimes had a stone head attached with string. They were made from where a branch met the tree, or from a young tree pulled up with its roots from the ground.
Originally, the word waddy referred to a tree, or any piece of wood, as well as a verb meaning to 'beat up or kill with a club'.
It has also been spelled as wadi, wady, and waddie. The spelling stabilised around the mid-nineteenth century, partly to help distinguish it from the Arabic language - word Wadi - a dry water course.[ Perhaps mods could take note of the breaking law clause]

Here, a take on how the Yanks received the joke:
Will the world end in 2012? NASA says no, Australian PM Julia Gillard says yes | World | News | National Post (http://news.nationalpost.com/2012/12/06/will-the-world-end-in-2012-nasa-says-no-australian-pm-julia-gillard-says-yes/)

Here, a take on how the Yanks received the joke:
As I read it, I hoped that the National Post article was tongue in cheek. Although given the difficulty some Americans seem to have coping with the Australian sense of humour, it is hard to be sure.
Some of the people who posted comments after the article seem to be quite unaware of the existence of satire. :D:D:D

She had to be wooden for the joke to work. The fact so many people are taking it the wrong way just proves she did a good job being wooden. I reckon she'd be a hoot around a campfire.:D
And I'm not biased - I'd laugh at a Tony Abbott joke - if he ever said anything funny.;)

Yes. Part of the reason it works as a joke (for those who are amused by it), is because it looks and sounds like a genuine Prime Ministerial press conference or address to the nation. It needs to be delivered in her usual style with all the solemnity she can muster.
The downside of that is that while it needs to be delivered that way for the joke to work it isn't as entertaining as Obama's Birth Certificate routine. His response to those who persist with the notion that he was born outside the USA or on some distant planet was a great comedy piece.
FWIIW, I thought the PM's little speech was a fairly clever way of poking fun at the silly "end of the world" nonsense that some people believe.

Has it occurred to you that the reason it was allowed to remain in General Chat is that in the view of just about everyone except you, it was just a harmless bit of satire with no political message whatsoever?

I agree with DT, close the thread.
We are obviously unable to have even an oblique conversation about politics without getting a reaction akin to Pavlov's dogs.

Rather than closing the thread, how about just deleting the obvious political rants?
Not sure, but as far as I can tell only one poster is turning this into a SB thread. Everyone else seems to be following the rules.
Cheers,
Adam

So.... if the world was ending on 21 Dec, where would you go until then?
I'd head to the South Coast of NSW with my family and spend our days at the beach, eating good seafood and finally getting around to cleaning up that little corner of the backyard where I've been throwing all the dropped sticks....

Well done, Nice bit of censorship there Mr Inc. Thanks for the warning PM that you didn't send. You are obviously certain that the majority of members here share your political views. Yet if the membership broadly represents a cross section of the community, and if political opinion polls can be believed, then if this thread was more widely read, you would have alienated around half your membership.
Thanks for all the rabbits over the past couple of years. And to save the comediens and comedy lovers the trouble, I will make sure that the door doesn't hit me on the way out.
Bill.

If my English interpretation of your post it is correct, it is obviously to me that you did not have read the rules of the forum.
Inc "censorship" was in relation that party politics are not longer allowed in the forum since the SB section was closed.
It is NOT bias any ideology or political view.

What is it you do not understand about party politics on the forum? I think Inc has made it perfectly clear. I'm afraid you come across as a person with single minded arrogance, forgive me for that observation, but that is how you appear to me. Get off your high horse, Mate, Bob
