My 2004 TD5 Defender 130 has me baffled. I have noticed when I push on the go faster pedal my Temp gauge moves into the cooler zone. Lift foot off and it returns to the "normal position". It has me concerned. Does anyone know whats going on? Thanx Regards Dave.

Check whether the fuel gauge also moves - if so, it is probably a faulty earth to the instrument cluster.

Had a similar problem on my series three! When the headlights were turned on or the thermo fan cut in, both the original and the aftermarket temp gauges would rise. I cleaned up the the earthing points from the engine to the body/chassis and put a second earth strap from the battery to the body, all fixed.

Cheers, Mick.

Possibly thermostat stuck open.Better than stuck closed.
When you accelerate more flow from the water pump drops the guage.
Also check coolant levels.Sometimes low level can cause the guage to drop
because there isn`t any coolant around the sensor. Then things go pear-shaped pretty quickly.
