Hello all.
I've just bought the microcat CD from Dave's Interesting Things, but cannot seem to get it to work. I've got Windows 7 (32 bit I think).

Attatched is the download instructions.

I'm not sure about numer 2; 'mount the CD1 ISO image' - for the rest of that instruction I assume you run the application.exe and it takes you through downloading it's stuff from CD1, then asks for CD2. I assume the afformentioned files on CD2 have to be loaded to the same folder?

Then I copy and paste MG16.DLL to the C:\Windows\system and C:\Windows\System32 (not sure if the capital S makes a difference but that's what it is in my computer), but there is no C:MCLRE file. I've manually created a folder with this name and copied the DLL file into this.
I assume this DLL file is to tell the computer how to run a 16bit program; I've got RAVE and that works fine.

I then restart the computer and it says it's got an issue with bit compatibility.... so not sure where to go now.

'mount the CD1 ISO image

An ISO image needs to be "mounted" via software that emulates a virtual drive. There are quite a few apps that will do this, Daemon tools, magic disc are 2 that I use. Once installed they will give u a virtual disc drive that will show up in window explorer as a new Drive, usually the drive letter will be the next in sequence. Then its a simple matter of pointing the software to the ISO and it will be mounted, giving u access to all the goodies u need.

Good luck. I finally gave up trying with my MS7 64 bit.

If it is on a CD then there should be 2 cds.( or both CD1 & CD2 burn't on one CD/DVD)
The iso image would have been burnt onto the CD.
insert the CD and run the .exe
it should install and ask for the other CD unless CD & CD 2 are burnt onto 1 disc.

After installation takes place you then copy the replacement files into the directories as requested, there will be a C:MCLR file automatically created , so then paste the replacement file there too.

Thanks everyone. I found out late last night I have the 64 bit vesion of W7.
Downloading it again this morning as per Roverlord's way, it created the C:\MCLRE folder, but after copying the DLL file it's still got compatibility issues.
The software is most definately loading up correctly, no issue there, it's just a compatibility issue. I've tried running it in Windows 95 compatability mode with no luck too.
Will creating another drive help with this?

works fine as directed in windows 7 and windows 8 here

something on your system certainly doesnt like it by the sounds of it, did you try xp compatibilty mode and running it as administrator?

As mine is the home premium version I can't download the XP compatability mode - which I believe would solve my proplem.

Tried running as administrator this morning; right click on the icon, properties, Compatability, run as administrator; with no luck.

I''ve tried all the compatability modes listed but none of them work.

I also tried this morning running it through a AUTO.EXE 32 bit installer, bit I get the feeling it's the actuall software and not the installers that are 16bit.
Mmmm...

Are you using it on your mac with a virtual drive or directly on Mac ?
I run it on VMware fusion on my Mac with win 7 installed.
If you are running it on mac directly would be interested on how you did it.
cheers,
Mario

you could always download virtualbox and install xp into it and run it in that.

pm me if you want more detail.
