Hi guys ,
I have a 4.4 P76 motor which was in a P5B rover...............
I thought it would be able to put it straight into a 98 D1V8 auto but now ive taken the 3.9 out and had a look, the hole spacing for the bolts in the end of the crank which hold the flywheel plate on are different...........:(
now Im stumped...........Is this normal for the P76 motor to be different bolt pattern or do I have a freak crank???
cheers

P76 has different spacing than rovers so thats not weird, you can buy an adapter to use the ZF flexplate from Toorak Tractors in Melbourne if they still produce them. Will you be re fitting the efi or going carby ?

All P76 engines are fitted with a crankshaft end different to the Rover, the cylinders are taller and therefore you need special spacer plates to use the D1 inlet manifold. Exhaust manifolds will touch the chassis. The cam will not suit EFI as well, and the heads on a P76 engine don't have the accessories mounting holes. Rover heads can be used. Also the engine mounts will have to be modified, and the engine will not pass a roadworthy check as it is pre-emissions, and lastly it will likely overheat as the cooling is marginal on these engines. Not a good conversion all round.
