ECM box fan error code.

I've been sorting through a few P38 issues of late, but this one I'm not sure about.
I hooked up the faultmate and this code came up:

P1000 = ECM box fan (power stage) Drive cycle A, which has occured once (signal invalid, the fault is currently present, this fault does not give mil lamp activation, the fault has been determined as persistently present).

I've been hunting around for info and discovered where the ECM box is, (under the bonnet, behind the cruise control actuator), 2 screws to get that off, opened the black lid behind to find the ECM, with the fan unit sitting in there.
It provides cooling air from the cabin to the ECM box to keep the electronics from overheating.

I can't find anything in Rave about replacing the ECM fan.
Has anyone come across this before?
Is the fan shot and just needs replacing, or is there something else to check?
Relay or fuse perhaps?

I had that on my old P38, I didn't get around to changing it before the car drowned, but I was leaning towards replacing the fan.

I think it was on the Range Rover P38 Facebook group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/RRP38/) where I read that someone in the UK replaced the ECU fan with one from a PC.

I ended up working out how to remove the E box fan, pretty straight forward.
Inspected it, nothing obviously wrong, no burnt components, so cleaned it off and replaced, but the fault is still there.
I'm guessing the fan motor is burned out.

About $150 AUD shipped, which is $100 cheaper than I could get it in Australia.
As a rule I like to source parts from Australia where possible, but $250 was just too much for this part.

It's on the way now, hope that sorts the problem, I don't want to go through summer and risk heat damage to the ecm.

Fixed! I got the fan today and installed it, cleared the fault codes and all is good.
AS I found very little information on this topic, I have done up a procedure for replacing the E-Box fan.

I just got a generic wi-fi ELM 327 OBD sender hooked up to my iPad and using dash command, I got the p1669 error code.

A bit of digging led me to the e-box fan thread and then this one.

Thanks for all the info, I may well check out using a high quality computer fan if the original is too pricey !

After clearing the error code and checking a week later, it is back :confused:

Loking at replacement parts i see it has been superceded twice, YQO000000, YQO000010 and YQO000030.

The latest rev is about twice the price of the original version, which oddly still seems to be available.

This price difference suggests to e the fan was beefed up with each revision, so I think i will go with the approx $200 latest rev.

Which is still much cheaper than cooking the ECU :eek:
