rear wheel drive

just a question on my 2002 110 defender , if i remove front drive shaft. should i be able to get rear wheel drive without engaging the central lock

No.

but there is no problem engaging CDL with one drive shaft removed. i have done this a couple of times, just be wary of the additional backlash

I drove from Cohen (Cape York) to Cairnes about 600k's with the front prop removed due to failure, in August 2012.

It went okay, but the back lash was certainly there. Your gear changes have to be smoooooth as or you feel every change.

It can feel like the box and TC are about to fall out.
