County CV's vs Ashcroft CV's which is better?

Hi all

Last job on the list is to upgrade the front CV's (and inner axles) on my 1998 130.

Just not sure which way to go with the CV's The price on the County CV's are a lot cheaper then Ashcroft (once landed here), but what about strength?

I am running 285/75 tyres and an ARB air locker up front so just want to upgrade before something goes bang.

The Ashcroft ones are MUCH stronger. Of course at $30 a pop for county ones, you should NEED them before spending the money.

I have had Ashcroft's CV's, half shafts and drive flanges front and rear for just over 2 years. They would have the best part of 35,000k's on them now.

Been across the Simpson, all the Cape York stuff and up Blue Rag and a lot more of the VIc High Country.

Not one prob, no clicks on full lock, certainly no breakages - no nothing other trouble free off roading.

My vote - spend the $$$$, go for Ashcroft.

what about roving tracks (rover tracks) cheaper then ashcroft and just as strong. (made by the same people as long fields CV unlimited I believe).

Only down side is they will dissable the abs if fitted but it think you have tdi by your sig.

You can't compare a county CV to either Ashcroft or Keith's Cv's
Running 285/75's and a front locker,I suggest you look at something other than the county CV

I don't think you can get genuine County aeu2522 CVs anymore anyway, only britpart replicas that aren't necessariily the equal of the genuine article.

This is what i have been told by hi tuff as well and that the britpart ones are ones are not really any better then oem defender/disco cv's.

Rovingtracks does not sell drop in CV joints anymore.....

The Britpart ones have been shown to be as strong as genuine ones. The problem with late model joints is the inner axles are tiny.

RoveringTracks, Longfield and Ashcroft were/are all getting their cvs made by RCV which is Rockford aeromatic.

I think I did read that Keith got black balled by RCV and they would no longer supply him for no good reason....not sure of who makes his now???

I also think it was shown that OEM AEU2522 were prone to breaking at the bell, the AM types tend to break the stub shaft. Although everyone bangs on how crap the OEM material is, I dont think it really is that bad, just they are hardend to buggery for good kms...Now whether or not the AM AEU2522's are as good as OEM, I cant comment.

Make sure you upgrade to the aeu2522 type. Don't spend good money and stay with the defender **** poor 32 spline
