In the W/S manual it shows the lower lever fixed about one spline to the RHS of the car when RHD.
The drag link is 27 1/2 inches long plus the ball joints and I have found that this is too short to meet with the holes in the levers without the joints being screwed out too much so usually fit them one spline to the LHS as in the series two diagram.
I looked at other cars down the back and they too are fitted one spline to the left.(as in my pencilled outline in the diagram)
What have others found?
Is the WS manual wrong or is my drag link too short?

I had trouble with this as well and never really resolved it before other problems got in the way. Check out the post I put on the Series One Club forum about 2 years ago; there were some useful replies.
Is the drop arm on the steering box centred properly? This was the hardest thing for me to get right. I set the relay levers as per the manual but the amount the wheels turned to the left and right differed greatly.
Waiting with interest for a solution,
Charlie
PS Just had a thought about the diagram in the manual - it is probably drawn in 1st angle projection, rather 3rd angle projection, hence the reason why it appears to be wrong.

I just checked the drag link on an S1 80, 86 and 109.They're all about 27 1/8" long and are connected at right angles to the arms .Of course that doesn't mean they're correct,it just means I made the same mistake 3 times. W.

I think the manual view is not what I think it is.
Wheel is 3 turns lock to lock. Centre it at 1& 1/2 turns , fit the lever verticle and turn to full lock each way to ensure the lever is clearing the firewall. It does. Put the upper lever on the relay parallel to the crossmember and fit the rod.
Get front wheels straight ahead and fit the drag link with the TRE,s and fasten to the left swivel and bottom relay lever.
Offer the lower lever to the relay and it wants to meet up one spline to the LHS so thats where its going.
