View Full Version : Shouldn't have re-registered the V-Strom

My bike was due for registration on 30th Nov - so I had the inspection and re-registered it. It seems that might have been a mistake. I haven't ridden it since July and I had rotator cuff surgery in August.

I was expecting to get the go-ahead from my surgeon this Wednesday to start riding again even though it's too bloody hot and humid to ride. However, I had a fall down some steps at Darling Harbour a month or so back and my shoulder wasn't recovering as well as expected so I had another MRI last week.

Today I got the results. I've torn the tendons again so it looks like more surgery. It seems the bike won't be ridden for many more months. It seems it was a waste of money registering and insuring the bike.

Bugger!

can you get your money back on the insurance and rego

Ranga

Sorry to hear Ron. :(

You can cancel insurance with little money wasted, but from memory NSW RTA are arsholes when it comes to cashing in rego early.

Sorry to hear that. Yes the good riding weather is here and when you see all the others out riding the pangs of jealousy will start.
Hope all goes well and you can get back riding asap.
Cheers

Hi Ron
Just to give you a laugh, I had a noise on my VStrom which I thought was a loose timing chain tensioner and so did a few mates who had a listen, I dont have the time to do it at the moment so I took it to a bike shop, he said it wasnt that but a noise under the fuel tank, probably a bracket that had come loose after I had a spill 2 months ago. I decided to have a look anyway and after stripping the whole bike down, got SWMBO to give it a rev, I put my hand on the bracket where the crash bars join in front of the radiator, it was the bloody spacer vibrating on the bracket!!!!!! 2hrs stripping it and putting it back together just to tighten an allen key bolt.:wallbash::wallbash::oops2:
Hope your on 2 wheels again soon.
Cheers Ian

Ron,

I do sympathise however it appears that you should not have fallen at Darling Harbour, rego is just money the other is affecting your well-being.

I think if you are falling down stairs you might want to reconsider the whole bike riding thing:angel::wasntme:;):p

That is a rotten luck Ron, I hope that you have a prompt recovery. The problem is that young people like us do not bounce at all when we hit the ground :(
Perhaps plan B can be have a sidecar fitted on one of the bikes :)

Hi,
Annual rego is a pain!
I went one year with out starting the beast, last year I only rode it once. Just renewed the rego for the 37th consecutive year. I must get out more.

cheers

Isn't keeping something registered easier than the hassle of finding someone that does blue slips......then actually getting a blue slip......?

Had my Honda 900 boldor registered for last 30 years. Havent ridden for last 18 months because of bad back. Easier to keep it registered than to go through the hassle of re-registration. Got new leathers 2+ years ago and got to use then twice. Probable wont even fit now [bawl]

Yep, I've seen the rider who has lost an arm and a leg and still races. His race no. is 1/2.

He's good, too! This may be him, Alan Kempster :

Both braver men then me. I'm still struggling to lift my arm up to handlebar height.

The upside of injury is how good it feels when you finally get that first post injury ride. Quick recovery to you.

No good mate, heal up and try not to injure yourself again eh?

That may be truer than you think!

I saw the surgeon on Wednesday and the tendon has a partial tear. He has recommended not doing surgery at this time. One of the muscles has a fair degree of atrophy so will need some work.

To top it off, I had to go to a meeting today. Whilst at the meeting, the chair I was sitting on broke and I crashed to the floor - onto my shoulder. :(

Jeez Ron. How many black cats have you kicked, and how many mirrors have you broken? :(

Your luckhas to get better at some point.

I assume you'll be spending a fair chunk of time in the company of physioterrorists to get the shoulder ready for surgery. All the best with that.

Ron, it must be a struggle to even have your favourite tipple.
My sympathies.
I still have that good bottle of red here for when your are able.

Hey Ron,

You seriously want to get on two wheels when you are having issue with staying on two legs? Sounds like you are happy looking at things from outside the square!?! Soooooooo... well, here's an "unconventional" solution to distract you a bit.

Having spent a little time on bikes in an earlier existence, I have always thought it was possible and reasonably safe (;-)) to get a P38 up on two wheels. I actually used to do it frequently as a younger fella on either slow left or right handers in my old 1.0lt 4speed Suzuki Sierra SWB, soft top. That was way, way back in the early 90's when life seemed a whole lot cheaper... and "more simply" balanced.

Anyway, I thought "anythings possible" so tested the theory (and I guess, the basic physics) on a trafficless stretch of back road on the way home tonight. Didn't get "the pretty pig" right up there, but do now firmly believe it is quite possible (even one handed). So, the big question is... just what exactly do you need that bike for? Sell it and put some of the proceeds into engineering the worlds first two wheeled P38! I am sure Inc would create you your own "Two Wheeled LR's" section in the pinnacles to tell all of us about it all!

Either that, or just try being happy with four VERY competent and well mannered rangie wheels beneath you. Bikes aren't actually that much more fun anyway.

:-) Dave & "the pretty pig"!
