****box Rally 2013

G'day everybody.

Any others from here doing the ****box Rally in 2013?

I am....

For those who don't know, the ****box Rally is a non competitive motoring event, raising money for the Cancer Council.

Driving ****box cars worth less than $1,000 we will be travelling from Adelaide to Fremantle... via Uluru and the Great Central Road, May 4th - May 10th.


This will be the 3rd SBR I've entered.
My first was from Brisbane to Darwin via Hells Gate in a 1986 Nissan Skyline sedan, on GAS!
My second (earlier this year) was Melbourne to Cairns via Corner Country and Windorah in a 1993 Subaru Liberty wagon with over 530,000Km on the clock.

I'm looking at getting sponsors for our 2013 assault in our 1989 Rodeo cab/chassis. We only paid $100 for it... the rust and mould that is!

As a newbie, I'm sorry if I've offended anyone by posting the name of the rally I'm doing. I've received a warning and will cop it on the chin.... I don't know how else to tell people about my exciting adventures.

Regardless, I will still be doing the ****box Rally.

Some AULRO members may already know that in 2010, a RRC completed the event. In 2012, there were 2 RRC. In 2013, I already know of 1 LR and 1 RRC entered.

25 September 2012: ****box Rally is gearing up to drive from Adelaide to Fremantle via the extraordinary Uluru for the fourth annual rally in 2013. Two hundred ****boxes – cars worth $1,000 or less – will splutter over 3,600km in seven days as part of the Cancer Council’s largest private fundraiser. Since its inception in 2010, the rally has raised over $1.7 million, making it one of the fastest growing events in Australia. In 2013, ****box Rally aims to raise an additional $1.3 million.

Adelaide, the hometown of rally founder and director, James Freeman, will hear the rumble of cars taking off on Saturday 4 May, with each individually decorated car battling the elements in the hope of arriving in Fremantle in one piece! The rally will roll through opal town Cooper Pedy, to sacred Uluru, along the dusty Great Central Road to Warakurna and Tjukayirla roadhouses, and finally to Laverton and the goldfields of Kalgoorlie before arriving in the historical seaport of Fremantle.

"Everybody has been touched by cancer. The rally is therefore about bringing people together in communities across Australia to raise awareness and contribute to the cause, while also having a truly unique experience on the rally," says Freeman.

"More than 650 participants to date have fundraised over $1.7 million before driving ****boxes to the most remote corners of the country. The teams for 2013 have now been finalised, and they’re knuckling down to develop unique community fundraising events across the country such as bachelor auctions, clothes swap parties or YouTube hits to raise awareness and critical funds for cancer research"
