Hello all.

I've just noticed that the filler material used in the bottom of our Disco 1 gutters has started to pull away from the steel roof. This has created a breach in the paintwork, revealing the undercoat beneath. In a couple of spots there is the faintest sign of brown colouration beneath the paint just above the breach, but the widespread shrinkage of the filler leaves me thinking that I need to reseal the lot rather than just treat the localised brown spots.

I've never dealt with this sort of thing before and done little panel work full stop.

What would the brains trust recommend to use as filler? Should I remove all the shrunken filler and start from bare metal? Unfortunately the Disco has to live outside in the weather but I do have a garage I can work in to do this properly.

I had a similar dried/cracking sealant in the gutters on my County.
Scraped out the old sealant and resealed with Sikaflex 227.

Only comes in black or white, so you'll need to paint it if you're concerned about cosmetics.
I ran some masking tape along the edge of the roofline, then in with the Sika and smoothed it out with a rounded spatula followed by finger wet with detergent/water mix. Came up pretty well.

Since you've got a steel roof, you might want to use a bit of rust neutraliser before you put the new sealer in. Just make sure its REALLY dry before you seal it or you'll just be sealing in the moisture and it will all turn to turds in a couple of years.

I still have my old D1 body sitting in the back yard ( to my wifes disgust). Your welcome to come over and have a practice on it to find the best solution. It's going to strap anyway so do as you will.
