My son needs new shoes for his Falcon. Size being 215 60 16. I can get him tyres for $100 or $150. Does anyone know the difference between cheapies and more expensive ones?

He is still a uni student relying on a small income.

When it comes to my own 2x2 I always go for the cheapies and have never had problems. How long they last, I would not know. When they wear out I just get new ones.

Grip, handling and braking are my major concerns, tyre life is secondary to this.

Consider that those 4 pieces of rubber hold your life in their little round belted construction and you may view things slightly differently.

Cheap is only cheap for a reason... Somewhere they are saving money!

I would suggest going with a more known brand - whichever you choose

Tombie is right, my falcin and my comodore ute take the same size tyres, but i pay ~$130 for the commodore and ~$260 for the falcons tyres.... Commodores tyres are fine for normal driving but are on the limit, I wouldnt put them on the falcon....

The commodores tyres break traction with little provocation from the v6, the toyos on the falcon need outright abuse from a v8

it is very hard to beat the Bob Jane all rounder on any utilitarian vehicle

Dont you mean the Bob Jane "out-of-rounder"?

I would put recaps on before all rounders

I can do you a Pirelli P7 for $140 per tyre or Continental CC5 for $120 per tyre.....

My 'Westlakes' on the Classic were around $110 each (mate's rates) and they're perfectly round, wearing evenly, well balanced from new:) very predictable grip (average to good) but are... um, "exciting" in the wet.
- but as mine is a rear-wheel drive Classic, roundabouts are fun :p:p

And as quiet as I could wish for. Too quiet, they don't hide the transmission noise...

You get what you pay for, just look for the area they've compromised. Few things are as annoying as out-of-round tyres.

The Continentals sound good value for what you need.

I would like to thank boofdtl for his advice and great offer. It would have been worth the trip to Melbourne, but so close to Christmas could not find the time.

Thanks Boof
