Hi Folks

Im currently over in the Sultanate of Oman.

Day before yesterday I was barrelling along a desert highway in the Pajero (Yuuuk!) when I passed scrappy used car dealers place and spotted a cluster of older Land Rovers out front. They're actually quite rare over here so....

I chucked a uwwie and went back to have a yarn with the trader and check things out.

I found a couple of SIII utes , a 110 ute and a DC Defender (Pics uploaded to my gallery).

But the real interesting one was a V8 Hi Cap , with an apparently modified cab and tray. I didn't look too closely but the mods looked pretty good- as if they might even have been a factory job. You can't see it well from the picture, but the rear part of the deck is covered with a chequer plate standing platform. I've never seen anything like it before in the Gulf. Can anybody tell me anything about this? Could it have been a special one-off build for a wealthy Arab sheikh to go falcon hunting or something?

Its a bit of a bomb, needs loads of work, but old mate wants $2500 Aussie for it. Steering wheel on the left obviously, - but thats fine for the Territory! I'll have to look into the possibility of importing a vehicle of this age but nevertheless I'm actually quite interested in it as a project. But would like to know more about the vehicle. Is it a standard production model? The rear part of the tray is a covered over by a flat chequer plate surface -maybe a standing platform?

Any thoughts, ladies and gents?

Cheers

Alan

G'day Alan,
Your pic (below) shows a standard 110 dual cab, they are available in Aus only somewhat recently, but have been available overseas since the TD5 model. There are a few members with them here.

Hi Isuzutoo

Thanks responding - Obviously I posted the wrong picture, that was the standard 110 DC not the unusual modified HiCap I was seeking opinions on. Not only am I overseas, but it was my first ever attempt at posting a picture to the forum -and it obviously failed!

Let me try again and post the correct one

Cheers

Thanks Jim

I own a 110 Hi Cap myself. But this one seems different. Kinda hard to see from the pic but the tub is seemed longer -stretched with a longer overhang over the back wheels. Like a stretch Defender!

Also notice that there appears to be no rear wall to the cab.

I probably need to snap some pics from the back to show the strange rear platform better. I really only glanced at this because I had a colleague waiting in my car and it was on work time, but superficially it looked like a factory build rather than a later conversion. The vehicle itself is pretty old and worn, mid eighties I reckon but if its in any way unique it might be worth the $2500 bucks old mate is asking.

I need to go back and have a closer inspection.

Cheers
