Just went out to pull the headlight bulbs out of the Deefer (MY12) and realised this is not so easy:mad:

Do I have to strip body panels or pull components off the engine to change a bloody headlight bulb??? I cant get my hand in there to change a bulb:mad:

What happens when im driving to Melbourne at night on remote stretch of highway and im unlucky enough to blow both globes (Real scenario, happened to me in Hilux) This is ridiculous, you would think you could just reach in and pull the globe out of the back of the light:(

Any suggestions?

welcome to Defender hood.

Pull the park lights, indicators, and head light shroud off. The screw you are looking for is positioned about 5 o'clock. Undo that and and gently twist to the right I think. Access through the engine bay is all a bit hard

:)hi babs,to change the head light globes, all you need is arms as long as a orangatan, fingers like a surgeon, then do a course in safe cracking . then you might stand a chance of of changing the light globes , without taking the head light out ,but can be done .have a go ,good luck .fegards,jimr1 :D

Don't forget a milk crate to stand on so you can reach over the fenders!

As indicated, change from the front. Early 90/110/Defender four screws removes the black trim, three more screws removes the headlight. A lot easier than many sedans.

Later Defender you need to also remove the parking and blinker lights - a lot more screws, but still all from the front, no double jointed elbows etc required.

just changed mine in the puma (right then) for phillips extreme visions

take the screws out of the indicators/parkers and the other 2 screws, loosen the screw down the bottom, push the light in and rotate and it should come out fairly easily. . .

mine was a bit of a bitch as i have the headlight grills and the A frame (which means the grills dont swing forward like they are meant to they hit the A frame so the access is tight)

took me 15 mins 2 change both, much prefer screws like that than changing them in some cars that your only option is to have little tiny hands with long fingers and eyes on your knuckles!

Were yours H4 or HB4, I ordered the Phillips Extreme Vision in HB4 it was meant to be H4

I went through the front like everyone described, actually it even says it in the Owners book.
