Hey guys,
It Saturday night, so everyone is probably out. Anyway, I'm in the process of re-spraying my defender (army green- it's gonna look tough!!!). It's a big job. Anyway, today I smashed the windscreen trying to get it out:mad:. The seal had to be replaced (which I have). So my question is- what's a new windscreen cost? I'm not looking forward to putting it back in:o.
Cheers,
Jono

I paid $200 in October, supply of glass and rubber, disposal of old screen. That was at mate's rates on the fitting. The bloke told me that $200 for screen and OEM rubber is usual price. MLD

Be very careful. The cheapies are usually Chinese. They are thinner than the Pilkington originally fitted and have more waves in them than a surf carnival.

I broke mine whilst removing to paint, a mate picked up a new one for me for $125 from somewhere in Archerfield, when we fitted it it turned out to have a few scratches on it but i can live with that[although i shouldnt have to] and i increased my insurance to windscreen cover for "you know what"

When i had my Defender about $160.00 it pays to shop around those well known windscreen mobs will rip you blind and some , My advice let your fingers do the work:cool:

I was trying not to recommend, but PGI - Australian company - make a good quality windscreen for Defender.

Michelin, Coopers, Seiko, etc, etc, are all made in China, the difference is in the tooling and quality control which is where the cheap stuff falls down.
p.s I bought a new u-beaut curved ergonomic keyboard. I hate it. Nothing's where it supposed to be (for a touch typist that doesn't have to look for the keys, anyway). Its made in China too.

I suspect I wont bother with the extra $30.00 a year on top of my insurance for free yearly windscreen replacement. I have only ever replaced one windscreen in 28 years and that was from an old car I bought to get it a rwc.
I use to pay when I had an old merc and the screen was $800+ at $200 and something I could do my self.. meh ill pass and save my pennies :)

Onto things Defender windscreen, I have a Defender windscreen frame where we removed the broken screen. I also have a Perentie and an early 110 (county) screen still with the glass.
Are the Perentie and County screens:
 tinted?
 laminated?
the same seal as Defender? How do I remove one safely?

When I broke mine three or four years ago, the cost at the local rover parts shop, was $80.00 for the screen alone.
