hi,
just bought myself a new 2 din head unit to fit to the D3, i've got the fascia kit and antenna kit aswell... I pulled out the stock head unit and started to check out the wiring to discover that there is no acc power wire??? it has the can bus wires i think they're called, once i fit the new stereo i assume those wires will be no longer needed? long story short.. can i hard wire in the new headunit without buying a harness adapter? couldn't be bothered waiting however long to get one, i want it in now!!!

thanks fella's

I'm no expert, but you should be able to find an acc power wire pretty easily with a multimeter or similar.
Pretty sure the can-bus wires become redundant and you lose the associated factory features.
I have an aftermarket double din unit in my RRS, but I had mine fitted by those who know.
Good luck & good on you for having a crack!
Rohan.

yeah, so i checked the loom in the back of the head unit again, and there is definately no acc power wire... didn't let it beat me though.. spliced the acc power wire into the 12v acc plug and all is good now!:) looks **** hot too!!

You will loose all steering wheel functionality to the radio and the car's dash computer.

So you have full function of the radio from the steering wheel controls and you can still go into the settings menu for the dash computer using the indicator stalk and them change the settings using the radio controls on the steering wheel?

As i said i only lost the clock every thing else is the same as it came from the factory.I did not fit it. I had it installed by Auto electrician. I did notice he cut all the plugs of the wires then rewired into stereo unit.

Ok - thanks.
This is the first instance I have heard of where full functionality (except the clock) is retained.

I don't have the steering wheel controls in my se so that's no problem. Yeah I lost the clock but the new stereo has one so that's no problem either. Dash trip computers on the indicator stalk all work fine. All good!:)

[Hi.
Im going to do the same soon, Im going to install a Kenwood Din.My vehicle only had a single CD, so I have no function to the computer I think, but will install the old unit back into the vehicle when I sell it.
