Im on holidays,Dec20 to Jan14.
Boss calls thismorning, there is a tree over a road 40ks from town and you need a loder to shift it.He is away,so I was left to deal with it.Started making phonecalls, seems everyone was as keen as me to work today.
Got a workmate, and seeing he didnt have his semi licence I had to drive the float,at least 2 years since I have.
39degC when we got there, the loader was only just up to shifting it,if it wasnt we would have had to cut it up.

Heck, with the organisations I've worked for, if one was recalled back from leave, one would get re-credited with all the leave already taken. It was very good when it happened near the end of one's leave! :)

Do penalty rates apply to the time you are called in for as well?

Are there any Dairy farmers on the forum?
The cows have to be milked and there isn't any call out rates, no overtime and no penalty rates for the milkman.
I salute you fellows, as I know how hard it is, to arrive home and the kids have already opened their presents and mum has taken the family off to church.

Luckily the occupies where in the main house, I had a good crew turn up, plus backed up from Albany perms, too far gone to save but saved exposures..couldn't get back to sleep as sun was rising by the time we'd finished, so long Christmas Day, as I'm sure your was also....Gary

The service foreman at a heavy equipment distributor I once worked for would never answer his home 'phone. His wife or daughter answered all calls and told callers that he would be in the office such and such a time/date. He only responded if one of the hierarchy 'phoned and identified themselves to the sentries.

Another RUDE interuption yesterday.
Our local arsonist struck again:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:.
Spent 4 hours yesterday arvo/early evening chasing 2 big front end loaders thru the scrub in the grader cutting firebreaks.
luckily the weather was much cooler than it has been.
With the machinery cutting breaks and many farmers fire units we got it under control before dark. They would have been out there all nite back burning unburnt pockets and watching for escapes.
WHY do low lifes do this ****????

Sorry to hear that...
One perspective... (the low life may be the person you least suspect...)
The NSW police service's Strikeforce Tronto investigated some 1,500 suspicious fires from 2001 to 2004. It resulted in 50 people being charged, 11 of them volunteer firefighters.
...
When a firefighter turns arsonist, it will usually be out of a desire for excitement or as a way of gaining attention and recognition. A firefighter craving stimulation or activity may start a fire before reporting for duty. There are cases of firefighters who have started a fire, reported it and attended the fire with their unit in the hope of being seen as the hero who saves the community. In other cases the motive may be to gain self-esteem through a demonstration of power and control. Some fires may be lit by aggrieved firefighters who feel they have been treated badly in some way by their organisation or community. There will also be a few who start fires for profit, such as those seeking overtime payments or those paid on a piece-basis when they attend fires.
