Brake warning light

D3 just had front pads done and wear indicators replaced, back were done at previous service but now the brake warning light is on and the message is saying check brake pads.

I assume a dodgy sensor but it will be a couple of weeks and a couple of thousand hard k's before back in Sydney. Do you think I can safely ignore it or should I try and take it to someone before I leave Brisbane?

The wear sensor is on the front left wheel and may not have been reinstalled correctly. The rear is on the drivers side wheel.

You do need to take the wheels off and check that the brakes are OK and try refitting the sensor - they do just push in and out but be careful doing it. If that does not fix it and if the light annoys you remove the sensor and tie it up to the suspension out of the way - or if you are prepared to sacrifice it just cut the wire near the sensor and tie the wire out of the way - the sensor is a simple earth nothing more so if there is no earth there is no light.

But make sure there is not an underlying problem such as worn or incorrectly fitted pads.

Garry I thought to keep the brake pad yellow wear light off and kill the message display, the two sensors were in series and that as long as the loop remained in series, the yellow light did not come on. (A red light infers low brake fluid level.)

As such, if I am correct, if one were to unplug a sensor connector from the body side connector then the two body connector pins would have to be joined together to keep the yellow light off. Similarly if one just cut off the sensor, then the two conductors within the cable on the body side are to be wired together to keep the circuit closed.

Incidentally, I have had the same problem since it got cold - I have just presumed one of the connectors has pulled apart or "shrunk" and will perhaps suck back together if the weather ever warms up. It has been below zero here since October - usually we get a couple of above zero days but not this year. No grass fires anyway.

I have. Found the problem, the sensor appears to have broken off, there is a green wire hanging in the breeze with a bit of black plastic on the end with broken wire in it behind the front left wheel.

Will drop in at Austral in the valley in the morning and see if they can fix it up for me.

Well despite the cynicism about Brisbane Land Rover service options, I took it in to Austral Fortitude Valley this morning first thing, they fixed while I waited, very helpful and friendly people and they even comped me a spare sensor they had in the workshop so I only paid for a bit of labour. Very happy with them:D
