View Full Version : Brilliant towing: L322 3L Diesel

Had a small misadventure with my Disco that required us to tow it for 150Kms (water pump failed) behind our 2003 L322 diesel.

I was a bit worried as to how it would handle a heavy car trailer plus a fully packed 4x4, which would have been around 3 tonnes in total I am guessing, but it was fantastic!

We had to tow from Kangaroo Island ferry back up to the Adel Hills, with many steep sections of road, but it coped extremely well. Very stable. Only concerning thing was strong downhill braking on tight curves, when you really felt the trailer pushing and increasing the breaking distances.

Got 10.5L/100 on the way down there with just the car trailer, and 15L/100 when the Disco was added, which is not too bad, especially if you divide it between 2 vehicles and think that it's only 7.5L/100 each :D

Anyway - an impressive tow vehicle - surprised me greatly how good it was.

Cheers
David

Yes they are a fantastic bit of kit David. Customer has just bought a Td6 Vogue, having the trans out of it next week for some work but the vehicle is a stunner. Java Black, full satnav and TV, heated steering wheel even:o. Not bad for $35K.

Sorry for the hijack, but Is this the one that is getting a Sonnax modified valve body by any chance...?

When the trans is out, could you please measure the output shaft of trans main?
Dia, number of splines, length from main trans casing?
I should be taking delivery of a 5L50E next week for possible transplant and trying to start planning a time to take my car off the road; get whatever I can prior.
thanks,
Don
