How many on this forum have their New Years wish come true.Well I did yesterday ,no I
haven't a new Disco 4 sitting in the Garage but I have the next best thing.Yesterday I was cleared of bladder cancer .I had a bad highly aggressive one and after 2 and 1/2 years of hell, Radiation Therapy and all it's side effects infections etc, The tumour is now gone. To make matters worse my kidneys packed it in and I swelled up like the Michelin man, spents 10 1/2 weeks in Ipswich and the PA in Brisbane where I contracted pneumonia and was given 48 hours.
Well here I am alive and kicking my kidneys are up to 23% and the medicine is working .
No need for dialysis..
Great to be alive isn't it and now able to drive more of this best country on earth again...Australia.
John.

Fantastic way to start the new year. Your determination is an example to follow.
Enjoy every minute of your life mate, heath is the best gift that we can have
PS: What it is the medical explanation of why when people are in hospital for any problem they finish with respiratory problems?
Are we humans like Land Rovers we fix the radiator and the rear bumper bar fells in the ground ?

Holy smoke! Anyone with just one of those hurdles to overcome would have a hell of a story to tell. To have have to beat all of those is an amazing show of determination and courage.

Glad to hear you are in the clear and can look forward to enjoying life to the fullest again!

Are you expecting the kidneys to return to full function?

all the best for your future health.

John,

Full on Congrats mate!! Now get thyself out there and see some more of this great place.

I have seen many people have to abandon the dream trip/s for ill health, and some die without even getting out there.

You are truly at a great point in your life, really wish you all the best for the future.

No mate that's one thing that the kidneys cannot do.You can get partial function back but never 100% like the liver.I just have to look after my fluid intake,I will for the rest of my life walk a fine line between Hydration and dehydration that can be caused by medication getting rid of fluids. In hospital I was on 500ml a day from everything milk soup etc they would give me no water but ice and it never tasted so good.To date they have me on 2 litres a day and I find that adequate but had to educate myself a lot.It all says something about being positive and appreciating the help given to me by mostly young Doctors and Nurses,to them I owe eternal gratitude..in my eyes a wonderful bunch of kids.
Just remember no matter how bad you are there is always someone somewhere worse off.

It is fantastic to hear that you have overcome this massive hurdle and it is great to know that you will get to travel this amazing continent. To get the all clear at anytime is a fantastic thing but it is a really great thing to be able to begin a new year with this terrific news, best wishes to you for your adventures,
Dave.

Well done Disco44,
We often hear of the poor endings for people with C, but as you have proven, treatment has improved immensely in the past few decades. (Even if it does feel like being baked in a Microwave!!)

I am sure your 23% kidneys will appreciate the lovely ride in the D4, once your back up to 50% you can buy a Defender and at 80% a leaf sprung Series 2A. :lol2::p

Inc and the the moderators,

I have just noticed that the only known moderator( to me anyway)- Justinc wished me good luck etc in this post.I and others once complained about the apparent clickiness of the moderators on this forum and the fact that they appear to hold grudges.Well here is the proof in the pudding IMHO. Thanks to the lot of you.Boot me off if that's the way you feel aboutme ,after what I went through you are small bickies indeed. Sorry Inc you are a good bloke and this is not aimed at you.

John, I'd like to think that there is no grudge or "clickiness" in the world that would begrudge you (or anyone else) your health, and a long and adventurous future ahead of you. For me at least, I find it hard to follow up with a post when those before me have already said all the things I'd want to say. I imagine that many others feel the same way. Gratitude for the good things in this world have a greater measure than someone just clicking "Thanks" in an internet forum. Just my $0.02

Hi John

No one begrudges your journey, and I am sure the replies here are all genuine, but it's a pity to "go political" as it brings down the tone of the thread.
Mate, with what you have had to deal with, is this concern over the mods really such a big issue....I would have thought enjoying life and not let the little things concern you would have been better or more important....family, fun life, nothing else is really worth getting to much attention.
John, enjoy life mate, it appears you are lucky to have it, and again mate, congratulations on your good health.

Regards
Kev

John, I am very surprised you would think that, having met a few of my colleagues, and 'worked' with them for quite some time I would say you are definately barking up the wrong tree mate.

Just possible they haven't even read the thread yet, so don't worry about it. You have more important things to concern yourself with:)

Like, where are those Disco keys....and the mapbook....:)

Thanks for that Kev.it was not meant to be political as you say.I am sure that in the main the moderators on here are all good people and do their job to the best of their ability but some are questionable IMHO. To the one that lambasted me for having the gall to say something like this in a past thread , I notice that his name is not there and others that I have contradicted in the past are also missing. If that being political well mate I don't know what isn't.
I have been a leader of men most of my life but I wasn't worth two bob until I gained their respect.Maybe some on here should learn to to earn that respect and not act like wannabees who have been given a little power for the first time in their lives. As far as I am concerned for me it is case closed.
Thanks for yours Justinc.appreciated.
Cheers,
John.
