I have an interesting glitch in a 99 diesel manual freelander, when you accelerate it will hiccup at 2750rpm and try and buck you through the roof. It also means at 105kph it keeps cutting in and out.
The weird thing is that it happens at 2750rpm and only when running at operating temp.

So any ideas to narrow the search down to would be fantastic as I am going to be starting god knows where

Cheers

Sorry, 2750rpm is where the dead spot is, 3000 is fine, 5000 is fine it only chucks the sads at 2750 it is truly bazaar

It also idles beautifully

Ok sorry - misunderstood - when my air filter was blocked (I had an exhaust leak and the filter was being blocked by the soot) it would rev OK in lower gears but in 4th and 5th it would top out at about 3000rpm and not go any higher.

In that I cannot help with that one - I think you will need to get the codes read to find out.

Cheers

Alright, it turns out that that there is a wiring loom running too the diesel pump, 7 wires all black running to the main wiring loom. The plug it seems has deteriorated with age and there is a loose wire that if jiggled shuts the engine down. The theory is that the vibrations of the motor at 2750rpm was enough to cut the motor put temporarily. As you cannot buy the section of loom by itself I am going to put a new plug in and see what happens, I will let you know how it goes in a couple of days

IT WORKED>

Not long after the posts below, the car started running so badly , I parked it in the paddock and forgot about it .
About a week ago , I needed a 4wd car for work , so decided to go "rescue it " Had a mate drop me off , and wait while I started it , it was running reasonably. We had planned to tow it back to the workshop, but as it seemed driveable , I decided to risk driving it , and he would follow behind with his hazard lights going. So out the gate I go , and I found It would run well between 3000 and 4000 revs only. So i kept it in that rev range , of course it took off like a scolded cat . I looked back to see my mate driving slowly with his hazard lights on , a big truck right up his arse, no doubt saying a few choice words as I disappeared over the hill!
I remembered reading this post , and found it again yesterday. I started looking for the plug, its a white plug that goes directly onto the injector pump . jiggled it , and it definetly felt loose. as I was trying to Fiqure out how to disconnect it , I got called to go out and look at a job. Bugger it I thought , slammed the bonnet down , and took off to do the job.
It wasn't till I was 5 minutes down the road, I realised the Freelander was running perfectly. No missing , jerking , or black smoke. It still runs a bit rough under 1500 rpm , and there is still a slight stutter around the 2700 rpm mark, but its like chalk to cheese compared to how it used to run (or not run ).
Now I just got to figure out how to get the plug off , and where to get a replacement.
