G'day all!
My windscreen wipers are playing up. Today, all out of a sudden, they started to behave funny. On intermittent position, the wipers will travel a bit, then stop until they travel a bit further on during the next cycle. They need about three cycles for one wipe, so to say. On normal setting and fast setting they work as usual, but won't return to resting position when turned off, just stopping at the spot where they are traveling just then. When using the "one-touch" function, the wipers move as long as you touch the stick, but as soon as the stick is released, the wipers stop. Weird...
I have checked the relay (located in the RH foot well) and it seems to be alright. I even salvaged one out of another truck, but with the same result. This left me bu**ered.
Anyone an idea what's going on? Unfortunately I am somewhat dependent on the truck and, given the weather conditions right now, I quite cannot cope without working wipers. Thanks for all advice!
Cheers

can you hear the wiper motor actuually turning even when the blades are stopped,if so possibly something in the levers is buggered or loose, check were the output shaft of the motor not sure but there is usually a spline there that comes loose.

If it's not the relay then maybe check the wiring to/from the relay and also the wiper switch. If they work when fully on then it has to be in the intermittent portion of the circuit.

either the auto park switch or the power feed to that switch is shot.

the intermittant position puts on about 1 seconds worth of power and then relies on the parking switch to finish the wipe and then stop in the correct position.

Yup, park switch, X2. Can be found hanging off the side of the wiper motor, replacing it in a Tdi / Td5 Def with A/C is a pain, in a Puma you have to undo almost all the facia fixings and GENTLY prise dash away and just squeeze your arm in there....:(

Have had to do more Puma ones than any other model so far:mad:

Ta for all your valuable hints and advice!!! Much appreciated! Does this park switch have its own part number or is it a generic part, easily obtainable at any motor outlet?
This time it's the Disco that's playing up, so I won't have to disassemble the dash but have to gain access from outside the truck. I trust it is a similar device, isn't it?

Sorted! Thanks for all your valuable advice! A straightforward procedure, actually. I found a description of how to do it here:
Intermittent wiper trouble (http://forum.landrovernet.com/showthread.php/138700-intermittent-wiper?highlight=wipers%20park)
Scroll down to post #4, there you get a detailed description of the job. My contacts weren't broken (yet), but the little beak or sprout on the top ends were quite worn, even missing on one. Bending down them with a pair of pliers solved the problem for the time being. I will have to find new ones at some point, though.
