Brake pad warning

Hello all i have a D3 and the other day the brake pad warning indication came on during a trip from Queensland to Victoria. I have had the pads changed as i didn't want to drive with worn pads and subsequently damage discs. The mechanic couldn't remove message from dash indicator do i need to go to a dealer or is there a method of resetting the notification. All help gratefully received.:D

If its anything like my Touareg the sensors need to be replaced in order for the warning like to go off. Some brake people forget this....as I found out.

We have a D4 and had the pads and discs attended to by an outside mechanic recently.
When we picked the car up, the warning pad light was still on. I returned to the mechanic who came clean and said that he broke the indicator cable when trying to remove it ( its on the front LHS) and soldered it up and buried it in silicone!
Off to the local dealer, they told me that the sensor has to be replaced when the pads are done and thats what we did.
It was a relatively cheap part in the scale of things.
Once you have a look at the way the sensor works it is clear that it is a part that wears and therefore needs to be replaced.
No further problems and the mechanic dropped the cost of the cable sensor off his bill.
A good result.

My warning light was coming on whenever I'd hit a bump in the road! (the car yard where I bought it changed the pads before I took it home)
A quick trip the the dealer & a new sensor was fitted, only a couple of hundred bucks if I remember right :)

My D4 is getting all four brakes done on Wednesday. The dealer informed me that the sensors are not touching, so therefore will not need replaced.

If you let the pads get too low, they will wear the sensor even before the light goes on, which still requires them to be changed....so I've been told.

Thanks for the replies and i will get it seen too, the mechanic was not a Land Rover dealer but was kind enough to do the repair without me having booked in. So i was happy to get it done just the same at least i didn't damage the discs.:D

I was advised to replace the sensors when doing the job as they inevitably break during removal and fitting due to them being plastic and becoming brittle....they weren't too expensive!

I also have been advised that the sensor plastic gets brittle with heat and should be replaced or it will break and give false warnings. Having said that I did get them replaced and then a couple of weeks later got a warning and found the sensor broken off and hanging in the breeze:mad:

Not sure why, but I had been offroad and possible got a stick or something caught up in it. Dropped in at the. Dealer in fortitude valley and they fixed it for me on the spot and even comped me a spare sensor they had sitting around the shop:)

On the upside.....I almost fell over when I got shown my 'loner' car....a brand new, metallic black ZF Jaguar sedan......very nice....:D

Just ordered two new sensors for my D3. Cost was 25GBP (for both) delivered. Got them from DLS in the UK.

Sure it wasn't an XF Jag, ZF is the gear box ;) they are very smooth,
see if you can get a XK next time, it will give you a permagrin to remember

Ooops....yup, XF....with an 8 speed ZF.....LOL!!!

I was surprised to even get this car....it's, on rare occasions another D4, usually a Freelander. :D

The Jag was very nice, well appointed and finished....smooth and quiet....but I felt a tad underpowered (3l V6 petrol???). Once it was above 3K rpm it was better. I'd like to drive one of the supercharged jobs....:D
