View Full Version : Horrible, cheap, nasty seat covers for a D4 wanted

Hi All

When I take the D4 into the red dirt I want to at least make an attempt to save the leather.

This goes against my philosophy of buy once, buy best, but I was thinking that I'd put on some cheap covers and wash them and pack them away til the next time or maybe even throw them away. Any ideas?

Are there airbag and compliance issues I need to consider?

I've got the land rover OE water proof covers in the front, there is a slit for the airbag on the side. They have lasted me the for 3 years and still going strong.
They aren't that cheap though from memory??

They'd need to be seat airbag compatible.

I have a full set of LR waterproof covers in my 5 seat D4 2.7 with cloth upholstery... there is a slit for the airbags..Bought them from Tim at Dingocroft in the UK (I've always dealt with him). Cost me about $500 landed as opposed to bout a grand from dealer here.. Thought I was going to take them on and off but just leave them on now.

Jools.

I'd do the same, Jools if I had cloth seats as they would be if I specced the car myself. I'd get some good quality ones and leave them on. My car came with leather and I figure I may as well enjoy it when I'm in "urban" mode and look after the leather when in "dirty" mode.

I might yet end up with some old sheets with a hole cut for the headrest.

And a slit for the airbags..I reckon sheets for seat covers will be unique. Make sure they have a nice floral pattern!

Gday James,

Kmart is your friend.. got some cheap covers that fitted the D3 seats, put a slit up the sides ... they even came in Dark grey and black.

Cheers Ean

James,

Just another option for you, not as cheap as a sheet or kmart !

We spend of lot of time at the beach - hence salt water sand etc.

I got front seat covers from this mob on ebay uk, the equivalent of these but in black, about $100 landed:

Land Rover Discovery 4 LHD 1st Row Tailored Seat Covers 1+1 DVD HR MY07-12 BEIGE | eBay (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Land-Rover-Discovery-4-LHD-1st-Row-Tailored-Seat-Covers-1-1-DVD-HR-MY07-12-BEIGE-/400331975579?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item5d35a52b9b)

They appear to be the equivalent of the OEM Waterproof covers(which I have on my second row). They are relatively easy to fit - just a bit squeaky when you move around.

For my purposes they are good, and even SWMBO doesn't mind them!

Another option I've used is the mechanics seat cover, just slips on over the top of the seat.
Made out of nylon.
Cheers.

ARB make some throw over type covers....I still have a pair kicking around. They are very loose but have a velcro straps that keep them in check :)
