Hi guys
The air con in my 1999 110 TD5 is in bad need of a service. I've looked about but can't find a guide to what parts should be cleaned or replaced and how to do it. Anyone know where I might get that info or have done it themselves and could advise ? Or is there a good place in Melbourne I could take it to get the job done ?
I don't have even a basic knowledge of how they work so anything with pictures or diagrams would be very handy..
Thanks

Unless you have a Refrigerant Handling Licence you legally can't service your air conditioning system.
Best bet is to take it to an authorised repairer in your local area and get them to give it a once over. It may have developed a leak over time which will need to be repaired or it may just need condensor / evaporator cleaned out. Don't know what the set up is in your state but in WA auto air con is generally looked after buy autosparkies and adventurous mechanics.
Good luck.

Ok, thanks mate, didn't realise that.
If it's run for a while I see a few drops of water dripping from under the passenger side back from the wheel arch - don't know if that's anything out of order but I guess they'll sort that.
Cheers

That's normal, it's just condensate dripping from the drain.
If it didn't do that your passenger would have wet feet (like they do when it rains ;))

:) Hi mate , when yousay your A/C is in need of a service you didn't say whats wrong with it , if its dripping from the condencer , then thats cooling down . It may be a bit low on gas and need a recharge . There are loads of places in Melbourne were you can have you A/C looked at . It doesn't have to be a Land Rover speitialist . Iv'e got a TD5 with A/C and its not the best when its working well ..;) ..regards jimr1 ..

Thanks lads, what kind of money does it usually cost to get the thing re-gassed ? I've never done it before so don't know what to expect...
Have a few numbers of places in Melb, only gotten around to ringing one so far and they said $120 to re-gas plus a mandatory $55 inspection. Forgot to ask about cleaning.. sound about right ?

Just had mine (2004) done, it was supposed to be around 750 grams but was running at just under 500. So yours is probably well overdue a re-gas. If you take it somewhere make sure you stipulate you want a re-gas only otherwise they'll try and charge you for all sorts of rubbish like deodorizer and filter change/clean (they don't have a cabin filter anyway). If it cools at all then the system is working it just needs a re-gas.
