I know a lot of people aren't rapt with 4wd Action, but if you have a look at the last page of the current issue 193, you will see my Stornaway Grey D4 ready for next months issue in the new vs old feature!
I was a little bit chuffed to be contacted and had a great weekend out with all the guys.
As a result of the trip their sister magazine, Overlander will put my car on the front page in a couple of months.
Good to see magazines featured more Land Rovers, although I am a bit biased that one of them being featured is mine! :D

Congrats - good to see the profile of private LR's being raised in Aussie mags!

Cheers,

I've definitely noticed more Land Rovers in 4wd action recently. I think the editor has changed recently, for the better obviously :)

Now if they could just get away from the everything needs a 2" lift & 33's attitude I might subscribe again........

I used to get 4wd Action but got fed up with the constant product promotion, everything needs a lift attitude and anti LR.
I relented a couple of months ago and they had a "Buying Used Rangie" article.. It was so biased that nobody would ever consider buying one.
Unfortunately the same publishers now own Overlander which has gone a little way in the same direction. Hopefully they won't go so far.

congrats! i'll keep an eye out for it..

It is good to see 4wd action showing our landys a little more attention. got a mates range rover classic in the last issue DVD (193). I think he will be in the mag in issue 194.
he is here on the forum (91ramjet) ...somewhat consider it a bit of a trophy to all the work we put into the thing.

certainly a nice feeling. ;)

My 10 year old is actually quite liking Classic Range Rovers and is trying to convince me to get one as a weekend play toy!

I'm sure you won't need too much convincing;)

Heh Scott where you allowed to turn DSC off?
D1 was 300Tdi and rear locker.
D4 did it have an eDiff?
Both had 2" lift ;)
Both had muddies.

results:
Mud - D1 wins over D4

Steep Terrain - D4

Water Crossing - D1

Rocky Terrain - D1

Corrugations - D4 (No contest really)

Sand - D4

Fuel Economy? D1 used 13.5l/100, D4 20l/100 why?

Sounds like a typical dodgy 4WD Action test to me... ;)

They couldn't NOT be bias if they tried...

Same driver in both vehicles?
Driver well versed in each vehicle?

I doubt it....

They had a couple of things wrong, but hey it's not National Geographic or Time Magazine and the young bloke and I had a good weekend away camping and 4wdriving!
No, I don't have muddies on my truck, I have cooper stMaxx and I was the only car to do the test course with all terrains.(the Killy loop for those in the Newcastle area). The new patrol and cruiser pulled the pin at the first mud section and everyone else had muddies.
I told them I have the LLAMS installed they assumed 2 inch lift and I'm pretty sure that Johns D1 has more than that. ;-)
Rocky terrain maybe o the D1 as he had a higher lift, slinky suspension and a shorter wheelbase.
Water crossings as well I would have to give to the D1 as my Cape trip was cut short last year (after reaching the tip) after taking a heap of water and mud into the starter motor.
As far as fuel economy went, I just got back from a week away through Dorrigo to Coffs towing a two tonne camp trailer with a full day off road at Coffs and used around 15l/100km, so I think they made a mistake there.
But having said that I had a ball, and as a result of that trip Overlander picked the car up and will be featured next month, including being on the front cover. The month after that will also feature my truck in a D4 vs D3 comparo, so it will be interesting to see how that reads!:D

Great to see your D4 in the 4WD Action comparison. Interesting that they cannot get their facts right! Quote from the Rocky Terrain Comp:"In the end the 206mm ground clearance offered by the D1 trumps the 185mm offered in the D4 even with its advanced traction aids"
1. A standard D1 with standard tyres has 206mm clearance. The one featured had bigger tyres so must have had more clearance under the axles.
2. Didn't they understand that the D4 offers 240mm in offroad mode and even more if you use your Llams?

Pretty typical of this magazine. I do think Roothy is ok though!

As I am always a bit behind the times I only just got and read this mag - nice D4 ! As has been pointed out some of their facts seem a little dodgy.

What's with the use of the Richter scale to measure vibration !?! No jeep I've ever been in rates less than a 9.9 hahaha

Also nice article later in the mag on the diesel RRC.

It will be good to see Clancy in the mag mate!! I still use a picture as my desktop on my iPad! Still can't wait for my trip this year up the cape! I hope it comes back all right from hitting he large roo last month!

Cheers Billy,

Love your vids as well!!

Yeah, 20L/100 is a bit steep. Maybe you need to get a more fuel efficient vehicle like a Defender:p

ps. I'll be over soon to get your John Hancock on the mag:D

Billy, your D4 will have to be back to 100% before your big trip as those Cruisers are going to need a quality truck to help them through the Cape;)

Nope only a 40mm lift and 33in tyres, but i do feel like asking them if they were on the same weekend we were. Don't know where they got the db and vibration readings from, maybe the same place they got the ride heights from. I also don't know where they got your 20lph from nor my 13.5, i worked mine out to be 10.5lph (gauge had just moved of full at the end of the weekend).
A little further on in the mag on the "best diesel engines" they say that Mitusbishi pioneered direct injection diesels in 1999 with the DiD then the very next engine is the 300Tdi which kind kind of beat the DiD by just a smudge.

:D

Minibloodhound, how did the D4 get water into the starter motor? Mine also failed one week after returning from the Cape last year but they showed it to me after the repairs and it had no water or mud in it and they told me it was sealed. Is there a breather or something that let water into yours or are they not sealed as the dealer told me?

Direct injection 200Tdi was from 1989 and 300tdi 1994 so years ahead of Mitsubishi.. Yet another fact wrong in this mag...

By the sounds of it, the only fact that is correct in this mag is the price on the front!:p

Great article of minibloodhound's D4 in this months Overlander! And they managed to get all the facts right too, unlike the sister magazine!
