Border Ranges Day Trip Jan 12th

Firstly a special thanks to Dan (Scallops) for leading our trip today, and to all who attended our first club trip for 2013.
We had a mix of 17 vehicles in various years and models>
Series 1/2a/3, Discovery 2 > Range Rover > Defender & County.
Great to see such a mix of great cars on the trip.
We all met at the Beaudesert McDonalds, and set off around 09:15am.
We followed Christmas Creek Rd enroute to the Border Ranges Lookout for our first stop, then on the Drynan Park for Lunch.
It was a very hot day, so many ventured into the creek for a splash to cool off.
Very relaxing way to spend the afternoon, although the heat was pretty intense at times.
By around 2pm, most started to head home, with the exception of Dan & Mick who stayed on for an o/nite camp.

On behalf of the GCLRO Committee, we wish to thank all the members who attended.
Hope you all had an enjoyable day, and look forward in seeing you on one of our Day or weekend trips in the near future..
Our next trip is to Levuka 4wd Park at the end of this month.
If you have not posted that you wish to attend, please kindly advise as soon as you are able.:)

Was an excellent turn out of the different Models:D The day was far too hot for a picnic but we all prevailed and was great fun:D Busman, We gathered you lot shot into Rathy for a cold one as you left several hours before us, and then behind us on the trip home;)

Zara was struggling with the temps, she will get a look over tomorrow. Someone asked this morning why we didn't bring the 101, I am bloody glad we didn't, we would have cooked in that:o:(


BTW Busman Harry's is a very late IIa;)

aircon would have been good as the temp soared to at least 39 deg.
dropping back over the range after canungra we thought we were getting a cold breeze, the temp drop was that good.:p

it was really nice to see so many of our older cars, and members on this trip,:wasntme:
i am starting to understand why the series cars are so well respected

now who can tell me what to do with the paint work on mine?
do i go for a full repaint, leave it as is, or what?:cool:

Depends on what you want nice clean looking or patina looking:)

As for what to do with your paintwork Harry, its up to you, especially the body, but I reckon that "baby dropping" yellow top does look a little Daggy.
As for the days outing, I was very impressed with the turn out of Series vehicles, really great. They seem to be coming out of the woodwork everywhere.

On days like today with the mercury as far up the scale as it was, some of the newer models would have been much more comfortable with the air conditioners blasting away. The flow through ventilation of our Series one stayed at a constant 39degrees or thereabouts and no matter what dials and switches I fiddled with (and there are only two switches on the dash!) it wouldn't go any lower, although Patsy and I got a bit of comfort out of the soothing power of a wet rag.
Thanks to the organisers, trip leaders and attendees, all went to making it the enjoyable day that it was.

Thoroughly enjoyed the day!
As mentioned, it was hot, damn hot, but that just added a little 'remembrance' to the day.

I almost (for a wee small time) wished I still had the S3. But then I would have been on the trip alone;).

Coincidentally, my father rang earlier this evening to inform me that a partially restored swb S2 is for sale near him, was I interested?
Having been out all day with those 'poor sweltering series folk' SWMBO said ...'no, don't even enquire!' Talk about poor timing:(.

It was great to catch up with those I know and those who remembered me (looking at you Patsy:p) and to meet some more members of the club.

Our New Years Resolution is to do more trips and renovate less.

Thanks for organising the day. Adam and I had a great time. The creek was a real god send. I will definitely be adding costumes and towels to my list of supplies to take. It was so hot that we dripped dry pretty well.

I take my hat off to all you series drivers in that heat. The air con in the Sherwood definitely got a work out :)

Note that in the above two photographs, Rats gives a great demonstration on the versatility of climate control in a Series One. When the weather turns hot and ventilation is a problem, firstly, the front flap (full width) opens and then if even more ventilation is still needed the door tops can simply disappear! In really extreme conditions, the next step is to remove the doors themselves. Now that really is climate control at its simplest form.
Try that on the side of the road with your Rangie or Disco!

Thank you to all the lovely folks who ventured out in the blazing heat to take part in the club's first trip for 2013. It ended up being a really lovely spot to camp, once the temp dropped a little later in the afternoon. It was great to have a guest from another Land Rover club attend too...good to meet you, Don.

Oh, and we discovered the Taipan warning plaques....they were at Darlington Park, only 60 odd km away...but this place was a potential mine field too. We saw a lizard at one point. And a parrot. :D

It was really encouraging to see such a great range of vehicles once sgain too. My Series 1's engine is now ready to be collected and refitted, so I'll be spending quite a few weekends in the shed trying to make it go again, so I'll see you around the traps, folks. Scallop out.

Another sizzling hot trip hosted by the club. Helen (series 2a) drove well in the hot conditions. Great to catch up with members i know and members i met. Thanks to Scallops T/L, The ho hars TEC, Busman Trip Co-Ord and all the attendees that made a great day possible.

Understand what you are saying;) with all the sides and back rolled up and no door tops it was quite pleasant driving, just 'zara's' little problem caused from the hot weather, no extreme hot weather, was a concern but 'zara' is back to normal today:D
