hi together,

just wondering is there a max speed limit for low range? found it helpful on gravel even at a bigger higher speed say 40 to 80 kmh but want to make sure does not put extra strain on car.

thanks

If you're talking about 2WD roads (graded gravel or bitumen), any "strain" is related to the engine RPM, not speed as such.

Max speed is 4500rpm ;)

thanks Gordon read that in your book but then it said speed would be one issue not to use low range. some fire trails we drove could be driven quite quick as stages but had nice drop offs on one side so 4wd felt much safer.

travelled with defenders and D2 and they could not drive 60 or 80 in low range

The D3 is 4wd in high range too, same as Defenders and all other Discos.

I find that at just below 60kph it seems a bit excessive to be in low range with engine revs in 6th gear getting a bit to high at this point I normally make a call to either not go any faster or shift to neutral and knock it into high range doing the same if needing low range, there may be some limits on the speeds you can shift on the fly at I am sure the manual has them mentioned.
