View Full Version : Should MR Automotive Open Another Shop?

I have been trying since early December to book the Defender in for a service at MR Automotive. Before Christmas they were too busy so I thought I would wait until the dust had settled in January. Now they can only fit me in in the first week of February.

They are just TOO BUSY. They explained that they have to attend to breakdowns as well as servicing so this means that they generally cannot get you in for anything for at least two weeks, even during "normally busy" periods let alone December/January.

I can't even organise what I'm doing in two days!

I know that there are people from all over Brisbane, including Ipswich and the Gold Coast, who make the pilgrimage to Redcliffe a couple of times a year for what seems like the only reliable and affordable servicing of their Landrover. So I asked them - "why don't you open another shop on the southside?"

Let's take a poll and, as I am sure they have someone who checks this site, see if the numbers can pursuade them.

I suppose that's why We were very very busy over the Xmas New year close period, we were supplying parts to last minute services and break downs. Never had a day off. Every one else was closed.:)

in theroy yes, but if quality slips because they can not control the workers etc as much then it becomes a moot point. I would imagine it hard to find good working, enthusiastic LR mechs to fill 2 workshops....all the best places seem to keep a small reliable workforce.

There is a third option; offer their best/highest potential mechanic a 50:50 deal where they supply the parts and help establish the workshop in their name and he runs it as a 50% partner, they would probably have 1 or 2 blokes who live closer to the new workshop who would want to go there, put it closer to the south side for the gold coast LR guys.
Do they have any mech's who want to start a LR shop in the gong?:D

One in inner Brisbane within a 5 k. radius of the GPO. It is a right PIA going 50 minutes each way to Redcliffe.

Massive overheads in running one mechanical workshop, let alone 2.
Two weeks is not a long stretch, and a pretty good sign actually.
I'm sure they'd rather have 1 workshop booked solid, than 2 half full.

This isn't a poll about them moving.

And it's not a poll about what they want.

I recon they need a bigger place, closer to the southside:)

Two shops may not work, remember how many places have expanded with different premises here and there, then it all falls in a heap.

One new place, twice the size they have now,all under the same roof.

It's pretty big as I found out the other day, they go out the back to high street now and have taken over the old wrecking yard next door. I was amazed at the second hand stuff they have these days, always thought in the past that they were only good for new parts, but they have a huge supply of second hand stuff out the back from wrecked vehicles. Service is first class, I went in for some trans bolts and Grant ? spent heaps of time fixing me up with the right items, all for an $11 sale. I'll be back for lots more stuff in the future.

I don't deny that they are good.. but they aren't the only ones who specialise in Land Rovers and are good mechanics.. you can try Ricks 4WD Centre at Nerang (specialise in Landy's) and I have found them to be fantastic.. like MR though they can get busy so be prepared to wait a week for an appointment..
