I need a non setting glazing sealant to fit new glass to my series 3 windscreen, I was reading a post on aulro somewhere about it, but can't find it now :confused:
I recall gum gum being mentioned, anything else recommended ?? Can you get a butyl sealant tape on a roll in Australia ??

Dum dum not gum gum, but I haven't tried to buy it for years. I am pretty certain that butyl sealant tape was mentioned as being available in the post you mention.

Wurth make a windscreen sealant, not cheap though.
Company Catalogue Dec 2012 (http://www.wurth.com.au/Catalogue/index.html#/252/)
Selleys list a sealant but it is silicon RTV
Selleys Windscreen Sealant - Auto sealants | Selleys Australia (http://selleys.com.au/car-care/sealants/windscreen)
Butyl tape from Bostick

Possibly worth approaching a small local windscreen company and 'having a chat with them' they might be able to point you in the right direction or even supply a suitable sealant.
Is it a new windscreen rubber ? If so, does it need sealing ?

I just bought a cartridge of butyl mastic from Repco or Supercheap, the windscreens haven't fallen out of my Series so far...

Thanks John, what a "Dum Dum"
I'm going to try and find a supplier today so I'll post my findings later. The windscreen supplier couldn't help and only had modern sealants.

If you search Dum Dum it seems to be a UK product (or was a UK product).
Apparently not made any longer, old stock available from some suppliers and on Ebay.
Have a read here
Dum Dum sealant - Land Rover Zone (http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f7/dum-dum-sealant-177914.html)
Here is one of the products they mention in the above thread.

I'm sure I remember a Dum Dum exhaust putty when I lived in the UK but that was quite a while ago.
Best of luck,

You seem to be unaware that Series Landrovers do not have windscreen rubbers. The glass is bedded in a sealant, and retained in place by aluminium angle strips, held by small screws. Same setup was used, at least until fairly late models, in the rear door glass of Defender station wagons, although all coil sprung Landrovers have conventional rubber (or bonded in later designs).

Yes, was busy at work and not paying full attention.
The last one I stripped out used a sticky backed sealing strip around the screen.
When I had a windscreen fitted to the work car the installer had a name for it just can't remember what it was.
Or you can buy glazing strip from the UK

Here's a supplier I can check out next week ready for my replacement windscreens.

The stuff I have coming over, is called "preformed butyl strip" we get it on the roll, it was what I was talking about last night with you, its what land rover have always used on the Series glass. If you cant wait, I am sure theres a product here that will do the job.

Hi
Just type butyl tape into fleabay
Bought some of the Bostik product and was good and cheap.
I understand Dum Dum is no longer made in the same form as originally was.

I tried that thanks, but nothing available locally. I ended up getting two free sample rolls of "vst acrylic tape" from a packaging company. It would seem that this is the modern equivalent.
It's a very strong waterproof tape and should be suitable to hold the glass in and keep the water out. The glass is now fitted so I'll see how this product performs :)
