Hi all, my Disco 2 keeps blowing low beam globes, generally one at a time, maybe 4 or 5 globes a year all up. Never had this issue with other makes, has anyone had similar issues?....the car does a lot of kays, generally highway, so not a lot of shaking on bad roads...It seems to have only started happening in the last few years, but I was just curious if it is one of those things we put up and is considered "normal", or might I have an issue in the electrics...:o

Chris

I had a problem with my RR classic which kept blowing globes, even good quality expensive ones.

The problem turned out to be the glass lens/reflector unit was loose in the housing and the constant vibration caused fatigue in the filiament. Haven't had one blown globe singe I rectified the loose lens/reflecter unit.

Might be something similar with yours.

It could be a poor Earth, I had the same thing once on an old Kawasaki that used to blow the low beam regularly. Check all the connectors are connecting nicely, not all furry with water ingress turning the terminals into sometimes connectors, could be a bugger to find.

Three possibilities, in order of probability:-

1. Loose headlight or fitting resulting in bulb vibrating excessively.

2. Loose connection, earth usually, but not always, fatigues the headlight filament by turning it on and off rapidly.

3. Excessive voltage, usually a voltage regulator fault, but can be caused by a poor engine/body earth.
