In november 2012 I had to replace the serpintine belt when broke in a shredded mess, mechanic found a sharp edge on one of the rollers and filed it off.I have only done 765km since this job and it's shagged again probably only a day left on it.When the last job was done we had a hell of a job getting the belt on,I was aware of the two different length belts and ordered the err3287 it was only yesterday I noticed on the invoice they sent the wrong one being part err5911 a long story .My question is could the smaller size belt be causing the problem or can anyone give me a clue what might be causing it,I havent taken it off yet new one should arrive tomorrow.

Check the alignment of the pulleys especially the PS pump as the pulleys tend to move forward as they begin to fail causing the belts to shred.

Had the serpintine belt replaced today with the right belt and all agree everything is in alinement, and one parts supplier said the shorter belt will tend to fracture the way it did, thanks for your reply loanrangie only time will tell.

Hi Wal150
Was your D1 built prior to mid 1994?
If so the pulley on the alternator is a larger diameter, hence the need for a longer belt.

Sorry to hijack your thread Wal150, but was wondering when ordering parts and they require the build date, I assume it is the date on the Rover Group LTD plate and not the one on the Rover Australia plate.
