Well.....
Called my local LR dealer to get service history print out on a Defender l just purchased. When speaking with the Rover Service Advisor he mentioned the vehicle has not had it's timing belt done and it should be done every 7 years. That if it breaks l may damage the engine.
While he was yabbering on, I am thinking to myself this seems strange - as l have had 2 previous TD5s and dont recall ever doing a timing belt. I say - ok no worries. I'll call you back if/when l want to book it in.
I am correct in saying the TD5 has a timing chain - which does not require service?

Hi ,you are correct , As HOGES says the TD5 do have a timing chain , I carry a new serpantile belt as a spare , they don't take up much room , and they only cost about $ 50.00 regards jimr1 ..:)

hahaha.
Say no more.
I have considered sending it in for the 'timing belt' to be done. The Service Advisor was quite insistent that l should have it done as the 'vehicle is more than 7 years old'.
Interesting to see what happens....or would that be just cruel?
haha.....l am a sad, sad man!

I'd ask for a detailed written quote on the work they recommend and see what they dream up - sounds like your "advisor" doesn't know the difference between a timing belt and an accessory drive belt?

Don't forget to mention that the flux capacitor also needs to be inspected:eek::wasntme:

Correct. I dont really want them touching my Defender!
Just for ****s and giggles l might well ask for the written quote and see what comes...it really is laughable.
I'd love to then take it in and present it to the Service Manager there whom l find "difficult" to deal with when it comes to common sense type matters.
Hence why l deal with ULR/MLR......
