View Full Version : TD5 Injector Washers

Pulled the injectors back out today after discovering fuel was passing the washers. These washers were less than 40kms old or around 1 1/2 hrs of engine running. 2 of them seemed to have almost blistering like appearances. Almost like they had gotten very hot. Also the replacement washers supplied by same supplier are slightly bigger in circumference and slightly thicker. Not sure what is going on there.

Have been informed that the pitting could have been caused by aeration of the fuel.

Looks to me like the surface they were sealing on was rough or had dirt or carbon deposits, also do the washers have a "right way up", Regards Frank.

Parts like that you'd be crazy not to use genuine. The Genuine item looks the same as the one on the right. The one on the left is definetly not LR parts. I'd also be sourcing genuine O-rings to reassemble with.

Not Aeration , Im with Frank, the seating surface must be surgically clean.

I have been supplied smaller diameter copper washers by a well known Landy specialist. They said the were identical to genuine and they uses them in their workshop. BS. They were noticeably smaller. Sent them back and ordered genuine.

I'm with Tank, contaminants.
The washers have no "right way up"
If fuel aeration did that to the copper washers (considering their primary role is sealing against compression) there is no way the injector orings would exist anymore.

looks to me like the pitting on the washers is definately something on the sealing surface that shouldnt be there, ie carbon , did you clean the seats out properly maybe with a nylon brush cleaner in the end of a drill.
