This is a question bourne out of curiosity more than anything ...

The Rover Australia 'Land Rover' badge fitted to the rear of the vehicle - can you still get these? I've only ever seen them fitted to the rear of cars, never loose ... are these still available, or an item NLA?

Not available as a new item AFAIK.
They'll come up on ebay from time to time.
Just gotta be in the right place at the right time.

This would be "Rover Australia Pty Ltd", not "Inc".

Pty is an abreviation for "proprietary", indicating it is a company whose shares are not traded publicly, and "Ltd" abbreviation fro "Limited", indicating that shareholder liability is limited to the authorised capital of the company. At the date of these badges "Inc" (for "incorporated" was never used in Australia.

There is a company in the UK that will make up similar badges, but I think they are just printed and not stamped, but I could be mistaken!
One of the guys on here, Ross, got one done for the rear of his vehicle and had an addition accross the bottom of it which read "Holden Powered"
It was a similar shape to the station wagon badge.
I cannot recall his username but he had a very detailed running thread on the restoration of his modified Ex Mil. LWB Series 3. It was a blue one with a white roof. Hopefully someone will recall his username and then you may be able to find a pic of the badge or even contact him to find out where he got it made.

Cheers, Mick.

You will only find these on Series IIa, the Series III badges were plain and the Series I and Series II had either "Solihul Warwickshire" "England" or "Birmingham" "England" with the early 80" having only "Land-Rover".

There are at least two pressings of the Rover Australia Pty Ltd badges one with sharp edges and flat top on the "Land Rover" and another with more rounded lettering.

Watch ebay, they come up from time to time.

The ones that look like a station wagon badge look milled. I have one here that goes under the Land Rover badge that says "Four Wheel Drive" on one line and under it "3.5 litre V8"

Good to know.

I think they get swapped around a bit though. My Series 2a has Rover Australia Pty Ltd on the back and Birmingham England on the front of it and my Stage 1 has Solihul Warwickshire on it.

Has anybody got a spare rear "Rover Australia" badge? My vehicle (a 1965 IIA 88) has never had one in the time I've owned it. I could put on an earlier badge, but would prefer the right one from the mid-sixties.

Oh dear. I am becoming a rivet counter.

Dinty has a great collection of badges, but don't know if he's parting with any.

Hello from Brisbane.

I am also interested in tracking down one of the Rover Australia badges - specifically one similar to those in the pile on the right hand side of the photo posted above.

That is the style where the Z line passes behind the "Land" and "Rover" script.

I have a "Port Elizabeth" "South Africa" badge from one of the earlier African built Series 2s that I don't see in the photo.

Cheers,

Sorry,

I only have the one of that particular badge on my wall collection and it originally took a lot of finding. I eventually found it at a wreckers in Durban and it had about 9 layers of paint on it at the time.

Maybe someone else might track one down.

Cheers,

Hello again and I don't want to hijack Johnno1969's thread unduly, but I thought you might be interested in the South African badge that you are after for your FC truck - unless you already know.

This is my small workshop collection and the 2 SA badges are at the bottom - the Rover Australia badge that I have is also 4th from the bottom.

This is what they were like when I got them from the wreckers in Durban.

And this is how they cleaned up which was OK given their original condition.

Old Series trucks and parts are reasonably scarce in the Republic these days unless you stumble on to an enthusiast or come across a club outing. Most of the oldies have worked their way out of the military or original farms and could have ended up anywhere between Cape Town to Cairo seeing out their days as much modified and strung together "mules" hauling the most improbable loads.

If your FC has a military past it may well have originally looked something like this Ex-Rhodesian buggy which is pretty much original other than the game drive canopy which has replaced the original troop seats and ammo boxes. Although it was probably built in South Africa it has a "Solihull" badge on its grille which is also quite common on a lot of Series trucks in the Republic.

Anyway, I will be going back across to South Africa and Zimbabwe a few times this year and knowing your interest I will keep an eye out for one of the "Port Elizabeth" badges. I can't promise you anything as they seem to be fairly rare these days - the "Leyland South Africa" badges are a little less scarce but probably don't apply to your particular truck.

Back to the Rover Australia P/L badges - our 1972 109" had the badge that is shown in the pile on the left hand side of Dinty's photo and I can't recall whether my 1968 88" had that same badge or the one that I mentioned before that I was after. I was wondering if any of the "historians" can fill in on the actual model types or years that carried the two different badges?

Cheers,

Hi S3ute.

My F/C is actually an SIIB (although built during the SIII era) so should have the Leyland South Africa design, but I would be happy with either just to complete the vehicle.

The FC in your pics is interesting it looks like an SIIA model with the separate wiper motors and track width, but has the SIIB front panel with the lower headlamps.
