Love this one...

Got a PC in for an update problem, one that doesnt normally go online.

Short version, guy who owns it downloaded the install file for Java or thought he had but in reality had only downloaded the "installer" that then points the computer to the download and installs the download for you.

the kicker....

went to the website, the "online" installer is just under 1mb and then as well as offering to automatically installing a bunch of other crud then downloads something close to 35MB where as the offline installer is nearer to 30MB and didnt offer to install all the online "opt outs"

There are many others like that, Adobe Flash and Acrobat Reader to name but two.

It does bug me, the automatic assumption that you want 125 new Internet search provider toolbars, so that you're left with such a small area of your screen that it's like trying to browse the internet whilst looking through the letterbox.

You just gotta make sure you untick all those boxes for all that useless crap that normally comes with anything you download these days.

Even Power point viewer comes with crap these days(had to download the freebee version yesterday after a mate sent me a Larry Pickering p.p.s.) :p:D
