Have you tried replacing the battery in the key fob ?
Does the LED in the fob illuminate when you press a button?
Have you checked key codes held in the BCU with a Nanocom or similar?
Do you have another Key fob ?

I had the system reset with the landrover computer system. the key has a new battery the fob illiuminates etc. When on the computer system it had lost the key codes, they where then reset and all was good. I left the vehicle for a few days and then the keys once again would not work. Cheers

Me thinks your BCU may be feeling unwell :(

Flippant reply :) The problem attracted the punny pedant.

Which one:
. how to change gears,
. mixture settings,
. distance traveled,
. how to unlock the doors for you,
. how to start the engine?

Given the replies, I'd guess it one or both of the last two.

Suggest it is probably not the key's memory (note key's memory :) ) but rather the BCU or ECU or the data stream between them, perhaps the key's reader up in the head lining near the centre light, and/or the sender coil around ignition lock. All it would need is a chafed wire somewhere. Even one from one of the doors' prox sensors.

Just thought of a really simple one that has caught me in the past. The bonnet down micro. Bracket only needs to have been pushed down a little and everything stops. Hold it down with your finger and then try full lock unlock sequence a few times.

Cheers

Except its a D2 Rick!

The BCU are known to fail occasionally and behave in such manner.

I mean, geez... Without a diagnostic, he changed the battery in the fob.
What else can we diagnose from sitting behind a screen?!
