G'day aulro.
After jumping under my disco to try and sort out a rattling low-range stick (it's seriously annoying), i saw this:

Not being a mechanic, this seems like a bad thing, but i defer to the experts.
Is this supposed to be like this?
if not can i drive home safely? and how is such a thing repaired?

any and all help would be appreciated ASAP.

Cheers, and thanks in advance,
Matt

If that's a picture of the RHS of the bellhousing just behind the engine then its supposed to be that way.
Its a hole that you put the crank locking tool in when setting the valve timing when doing the head gasket.

DaveTD5 is correct. BTW That is the bellhousing not the transfer case:)
