Have seen a filter kit from the U K for approx $40 to door. Contains both oil filters, air & fuel filters & sump plug washer. Seems like a good deal as I was quoted $24for oil filter & $28 for roto filter by TRS at Lonsdale. Filters are branded bearmach.Anyone with any experence of them or comment .

Quite often the cheap kits end up using blue box "cooper" filters.

These are a dodgy knock off of the proper "coopers" in the black & red boxes (note the ""s" on the name.). They (cheapies) often split the walls, or have pinholes, and no valves.

A mate who services forklifts (etc) for a living, won't touch them, despite having them supplied for him. He reckons they get the knockoff filters for about 50c. Your engine is worth more than that.

Not sure about the Bearmach stuff though.

I always use Heather and Mario at roverlord now. You pay a bit more, but get the right stuff, and often delivered next day.

Re the TD5 rotors ive tried a few and the only ones that seem any good are genuine LR or Ford rotor filters. Turn engine off & the genuine keeps spinning for about 45seconds, the knock offs stop straight away, hardly doing their job .

As for the air, fuel & full flow oil Bearmach, Coopers or Ryco are fine.

The ford Transit Rotor filter fits Td5 perfectly

BTW I did recieve a Genuine LR rotor in LR box & it had the ford logo on it as in ebay link above

Filters are not filters.

MANN+HUMMEL (MANN FILTER) make the OEM filter for the bypass centrifuge (rotor) - i.e. this is the one that gets sold with LR or Ford branding.

Not sure on the others. In general, Donaldson, Fleetgard (Cummins) and MANN+HUMMEL are the 3 largest (OEM) filter companies in the world and guarantee their filters to be OEM quality or better.

Personally these are (usually) the only 3 brands I use.

Call tony at Karcraft and they have a German filter kit of Mahle and OEM filters. Best price I have found. I get an auto filter kit included that comes in a bearmach box bit from memory has a LR sticker inside but don't quote me on that.

Mahle was one of the OEM manufacturers and the standard oil filter is a tad shorter then the Mann one. Makes changing them a stack easier.

Cheers Matt

I use this set Service Kit TD5 (OEM) DA6004P Island 4x4 - Specialists in Land Rover and Range Rover Parts and accessories for all models. UK and worldwide mail order. (http://www.island-4x4.co.uk/service-defender-discovery-da6004p-p-5850.html) not sure what postage costs are, but would probably work out cheaper buying a few.

Mahle was one of the OEM manufacturers ...

If you are talking about the centrifuge then you are incorrect. That is not to say that the Mahle product is not good quality. However the smaller size makes me worry - at minimum you would expect a smaller soot capacity.

I use only factory filters. It's expensive, but so is my Discovery.

Ages ago one of the fellows on D2Au compared a heap of air filters including LR, Coopers etc and the factory filter had the greatest surface area. Admittedly there is more to evaluating air filters. Likewise I'm also not convinced all centrifuges actually spin up properly, including the Cooper unit, so again I stick to LR's unit.

Hi guys

Land rover have just dropped the prices of their filters. The spin on oil filter is now around $8, the rotor about $18, air filter $16 but the fuel was still around $80. Also the injector harnesses are $85 and the serpentine belts for non ACE discos $35. These prices were from malvern in Victoria. This makes the vision easy for me even with the 30 min drive. I just buy a few of each as required.

So if you use the Mann spin on how do you change it without undoing the oil return from the turbo?
I find it almost impossible to fit the new one without undoing the return.

Genuine only. The quality has been proven here before..

I used a coopers in the Rangie. Once. Never again. Change oil at 7500ish and it fell apart. Literally. took a long time to tidy up. Might have just been unlucky, but you know what they say, once bitten.

Coopers, or cooper?

Coopers are one of the OEM brands supplied and used by LR, IIRC.

Cooper on the other hand, are trash.

I don't think coopers were widely used for OEM from td5-onwards.

JC will have to answer that one. I don't own a Td5. I do however know a lot of MANN+HUMMEL R&D engineers, so know they are the sole OEM supplier of the centrifuge element.

The LR branded air filter was until recently Mann and Hummel. However the part number has changed recently and the last one I bought no longer had Mann and Hummel stamp.

The recommendation I had from Graeme at British Car Components was to only fit LR branded rotor filters - he felt it wasn't worth going OEM as the Mann and Hummel filters were more expensive.

This was posted to a UK forum re: the Td5 Fuel filters:

TD5 Fuel Filter quality (http://forum.landrovernet.com/showthread.php/179321-TD5-Fuel-Filter-quality?p=1387801&viewfull=1#post1387801)

, like all of you had noticed that genuine Landrover Td5 fuel filters are very expensive.
I cut an old one open to see what was inside, the filter element looks like some sort of compressed velvet, the material is very thick and would trap very fine particles- and block very easily as we have found out!
The Bearmach ones have a conventional paper element inside, I have 2 of these just as a emergency "get you home" supply.
Subsequently I have always fitted genuine LR filters as part of the servicing.

cheers
Paul

The contracts between car manufacturers and filter companies usually stipulate that the OEM supplier cannot undercut the car manufacturer on price. However they shouldn't be more expensive!
