Relocating D3 EAS compressor

The D3/LR3 air compressor is mounted under the truck. Considering I takes my truck off-roading often which involves wading, mudding and rock crawling, I have "worn out" two compressors within 2 yrs. Has anyone tried to reloate the compress to other area of the truck? I am tired of replacing the compressor, its about a 4+ hrs work. (For "size" reference, take a look at Tactical Rover rock slider.) Figure if the compressor is mount at somewhere "better" it might last longer or easier to replace when it fails again. Dealer think I keep busting the compressor due to "over working" it. Right now truck in the process getting the new AMK compressor install by the dealer.

The engine bay would be a cleaner spot for it but you may hear it too much.

The dryers get clogged which overworks the compressor. The dryer is a replaceable part or just the dessicant can be replaced or the dessicant can be rejuvinated in a microwave oven. However I don't know the AMK setup as mine has only recently been fitted after 2 failed compressors in 3 years, even though mine doesn't get any hard-core 4wd work.

I haven't had the need to remove my AMK because its only recently been fitted under warranty so I don't know the dryer arrangement yet. I could remove the old Hitachi in about 15 minutes, having done so a few times. Servicing the dryer and keeping the compressor cooling fins clear of mud would go a long way towards extending compressor life.

I've often wondered why they put the compressor in such a "vulnerable" spot - or...if they have to put it there why couldn't they design a small waterproof "tough" box for it to go in - maybe it would last a bit longer :o
I guess it's another little "project" for the future.... I'd be interested to know if anybody has actually moved their compressor to another location.
It never ceases to amaze me that here we have one of the most capable off-road vehicles in the world and yet it has bits & pieces that hang off the bottom of it that don't work correctly if they get wet and/or dusty !!!! seems a little odd to say the least !!!
I guess that's one of those things about owning a Landrover - you always have something to do if you have some spare time on your hands :D

I'm not too worried where the compressor is, it's really a sealed unit within the covers. Air intakes are within the cabin, dust cannot get into the unit from outside it. Yes mud over time can build up within the housing but this is easy to clean out.
Yes get a GOE compressor protection plate.
